The Trust Factor
Is it really fair to say, “I don’t trust that person”? Is it the total person that we choose to deny our trust? Or is it that we don’t trust certain behaviors the person displays? Said differently, “we have learned to actually TRUST that person to consistently behave in certain specific ways. Learning to TRUST people to “show up being themselves” requires much more of us as leaders than a blatant choice of “not trusting.” It requires that we assess all that we see, hear, and experience, and harvest the garden of others for behaviors that are useful for the whole of our teams, or those behaviors that will infect our team’s productivity and attitudes. In other words, THE TRUST FACTOR allows us to TRUST everyone to be exactly who they are!

Confession
Pull the thread, they said. We all started out by joining Facebook, now social media management is an all day affair. Some companies have tried to create software that would make posting to more than one site easier, but you lose the personal touch. Besides, Pinterest and Snapchat aren’t included. The software makers are unable to keep up.

Letter to Leaders
THIS LETTER IS DEDICATED TO GREAT LEADERS WHO HAVE LEFT THEIR THUMB PRINT ON MY LIFE: We have been blessed to work alongside of truly great leadership. These thoughts come from the experience of co-creating with our Leaders. As one has often said, “Our customers vote with their legs and their wallets.” It is our constant “opportunity” to deliver the WOW in all our services. This requires great leadership that focuses on action over position. Our greatest success comes as “exceeding expectations” becomes a way of life.

It's All About Relationships
“Let me know when you’re ready and I’ll start the clock." This is a common statement we make when we present our teams with “their first team challenge.” Invariably teams interpret “you” as themselves individually. They immediately divide into small pairs or groups to complete their task. The result is low scores in efficiency, accountability, appreciation, integrity, and quality. Only as we perform together as ONE TEAM do we experience high scores.

KDP Select Doesn't Pay
Kindle Direct Publishing Select, which I'll be abbreviating as KDPS from this point on, is Amazon's ebook publishing platform with a twist. Real quick, just to clarify, KDP is the regular platform, which also publishes paperbacks, and if you choose to publish your ebooks through KDP, you can also publish them everywhere else you choose. If you enroll in Select, you're giving KDP exclusivity; you cannot publish your ebooks anywhere else.

Excuse Me, I'm Interested in Selling Out
Selling out, man. It's like, the worst, you know? Right now, it's not a problem for me. Somebody whose total sales in his career probably amount to a few hundred units is more concerned with selling than selling out. But the thought arises when I daydream about success: What if I was suddenly in a position to sell out? What if people would write me cheques just to put my name on something? Would I do it?

Sugar Cookies
Shellac and Sugar Cookies Probably a definition is in order. According to an ancient encyclopedia on my bookshelves, Shellac is an all-natural resin secreted by the female lac bug to form a cocoon, on trees in the forests of India and Thailand (tie-land). It is processed and sold as dry flakes, which are dissolved in denatured alcohol to make liquid shellac, which is used as a brush-on colorant and wood finish much like a combination of stain and polyurethane (poly-ur-a-thane). Shellac functions as a tough all-natural primer, sanding sealer, odor-blocker, stain, and high-gloss varnish.
