When you think of Bangkok, what comes to mind is a vibrant destination with plenty of modern experiences. The top things to do there include shopping and dining experiences. However, the City of Angels has more in store for its visitors. Picture towering buildings adorning ancient designs enveloped in a natural setting within an urban environment. This is how you would witness the impressive temples in Bangkok. Here is a guide to explore them.

Why do you need to engage in Bangkok temple explorations?

Dive into Thai culture. These temples are perfect locations to explore history and encounter spirituality in Thailand. Witness remarkable architecture when you visit such places. They showcase detailed designs and stunning art and reflect on the rich roots of the country. They are similar to sanctuaries and are suitable for reflection, gaining knowledge about Buddhism and seeing rituals being practised. Places, such as Wat Phra Kaew, offer scenic views of the surroundings that will take your breath away.

Best time to visit the destination

The ideal time to visit Bangkok for your temple exploration is from November to February, when the weather is cool but dry. These pleasant weather conditions are comfortable for walking around, as there is no rain. The temperature is generally between 23°C and 35°C, creating the ideal environment for outdoor excursions. This is the peak season in the city with many visitors coming in to enjoy the climate and festive cheer during the December holidays. If you are planning to stay at a particular luxury hotel in Bangkok, then it would be suitable to book it early to avoid disappointment.

Dress code

Modesty is key when visiting religious sites, and this is true even in Bangkok. You need to dress in simple attire which covers your knees and shoulders. Avoid sleeveless tops, shorts, and miniskirts. You will have to remove your footwear before entering the site. Therefore, take along a pair of comfortable walking shoes which you can slip off easily. Hats and any kind of headgear need to be taken off as well.

Temple etiquette

You need to show respect for any of the practices and rituals performed at these places. Don't be loud. Talk in a respectful tone and avoid any public display of affection. Do not point your feet at the Buddha images, touch them or take selfies with your back turned to the statues. You also need to behave respectfully in front of monks. Bow slightly when you encounter them. If you feel uneasy visiting such places, it is always helpful to have a knowledgeable guide with you. The Siam Hotel Bangkok presents English-speaking hosts to escort you. They can recommend places to visit and help you avoid any faux pas as they are familiar with the site and culture of the region.

Best places to visit

There are an abundance of religious destinations within the city that are worth exploring. Wat Phra Kaew is one such famous place. This place is also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. This is because you can witness a revered statue of the Buddha that has been constructed using jade and adorned with gold. You can also inspect the 178 Ramakien Murals, which relate the country’s national epic, the Ramakien. There is even an impressive gilded stupa which houses the Buddha’s relics there. You can head to the Royal Pantheon to see life-sized statues of the Chakri Dynasty kings. The Grand Palace, too, is nearby and is well-known for its amazing architecture. Other religious spots you can venture to during your tour are Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Wat Benchamabophit, Wat Saket, and Wat Ratchanatdaram.
