To all who are muttering the nonsense of sacking Lampard. I do believe he's the right man, we have to give him time!
Who expected him to come in and improve these players? Same players who couldnt do it for 5+ other managers. It's a broken group from top to bottom. No leaders bar Coleman who leads by example but is past his best. Simply put, we are not good enough. You can blame the players and I do blame for poor commitment to the cause, Gordon has shown them all up in that respect. This is a mix or bad recruitment, lack of quality and bad luck. In comparison from last year.. we have changed manager twice, been without main striker (21 goals last season), both creative players left in Rodriguez and Digne. Injuries throughout squad has been a constant from, Gray, Godfrey, Mina, Richarlison, Doucoure now Allan. Let's face it, our best players.
I would say 2/3 of squad are washed up/useless/not EPL quality. Not going to include Begovic because I think GK is different but Kenny, Holgate, Keane, Delph, Townsend, Iwobi, Mykolenko, Tosun, Gomes, Rondon and El Ghazi (probably) these are lacking the mentality capabilities or technical qualities or both for EPL level. What did we expect? Brands might of known but wasnt given the freedom he expected when he arrived, regardless this squad formed over seasons and we haven't been able to eradicate the failed transfers of past seasons quick enough, replacing them with good decisions has proved just as hard.
The main reason we are where we are is recruitment. What makes it especially painful is at 25 years old I gave seen both eras well. What you can do without money vs with money. The fact we have achieved this poor level of recruitment with such health funds is baffling. It's not about spending alot, it's about spending well. When other clubs have been buying, Matty Cash, Jarred Bowen, Emmanuel Dennis, Michael Olise etc we have chased a higher fee, higher wage, "EPL Proven", declining player. They word is declining, and if you buy enough of them then it's obvious the squad and club will be.. DECLINING.
That's not to say all older players will be bad signings, but I would take a Neville/Saha/ Barry/ Eto'o or even Lennon on a free but dont buy Williams(12m)/Funes Mori (12m), Bolasie(26m)/ Allan(21m)/Tosun (20m)/Walcott (20m). Combined the latter cost 100m minimum. Only one was a hit from that recent batch and that's Allan. It's a poor strategy, far too many misses than hits. Coupled that with the other high spending deals of Niasse (16m), Schneiderlin (20m), Klassen (24m), Pickford (25m), Keane (25m), Sigurdsson (44m), Digne (18m), Mina (27m), Richarlison (35m), Gbamin (22m), Gomes (22m), Kean (25m), Iwobi (27m), Doucoure (20m), Godfrey (25m), Patterson (13m) and Mykolenko (21m). How many of these can we say was hits? It's a chaotic approach. We havent had a clear structure or philosophy in place. Until we learn that we need a more sensible, clearer vision going forward and then stick to this we were always heading in this direction. So hopefully that explains, this is deep rooted and it doesnt matter who comes in this season. We are relying on fate now, we all wait to know our season outcome Lampard included. Lampard is only here now in my mind to try to motivate them which is an almost impossible task and learn the group and the situation ready for next season.
If The EPL or EFL, then that's our of his hands and ours. The book stops at the people above Frank and if they dont change there approach he will be shown in a bad light also. I hope with the new director of football, he shares a similar understanding and approach to me and most evertonian and helps Lampard battle the idols above them who dont know what they are doing.
