Content Writing Vs Copywriting
A quick go-through on the difference between content writing vs. copywriting.
Being a writer, no matter what domain of writing you work in, you must be clear about the different forms of writing and how they work.
Most people confuse content writing with copywriting.
I realise it through LinkedIn job posts where recruiters post about content writing positions but demand specifically copywriting services, SEO, content strategy, and management services.
Also, I read someone talking silly about content writing because he has to prove copywriting serves well.
He said that a long-form article is a waste when we do things in a few words.
I felt like the person was unaware that both categories serve different purposes.
Copywriting serves as a call to action for a sale specifically.
And content writing serves wide purposes. Copywriting itself is a form of content writing. It's a type, a category, a portion of it.
So, let's have an insight into the difference between both of them because, as a writer, you must be aware of it so that you don't sound silly in interviews or you don't play dumb while defending your area of writing.
Content writing
Content writing is a broad term that contains an ocean within.
There are a number of types of content writing.
- Copywriting: B2B, B2C, etc.
- Website writing: blog posts, articles, pages.
- Book writing: (book content).
- Social media writing: (social media scripts, descriptions, and many more).
- Creative writing: (stories, scripts, poems, poetry, etc.)
Everything available on the internet is content. Written content lies in the content writing domain.
