The Wrong Seminar
Marcus Lee had twenty-seven dollars in his checking account and a sticky note on his fridge that read, “Succeed or starve.” He wasn’t dramatic by nature. The sticky note was practical. Inspirational, even. He had written it after watching a free webinar called Unleash the Inner Giant Within You, hosted by Bryce Chandler, America’s favorite millionaire-turned-messianic-life-coach—a man who looked like a cross between an energy drink and a televangelist caught mid-exorcism.

They told me to think of my recovery like assembling Ikea furniture: one confusing piece at a time, a handful of Allen keys I didn’t know I owned, and a manual that might as well be written in ancient Swedish. ON THE DISCOVERY OF CANUS INSECTIVORUS
This paper explores the recent discovery of fossils believed to be derived from a species known as Canus Insectivorus, colloquially known as Bug Wolves. The fossils were uncovered in the western portion of what is now the United States during a routine dig conducted by Prof. Magnus Trelviksson, a zooarcheologist. Trelviksson’s team was investigating human dwellings when they discovered small bones. “We found Canus Insectivorus bones in the general vicinity of early dwellings,” Trelviksson stated, adding that this was proof that they were domesticated.

Inside a little car cruising down the boulevard, a young couple was enjoying what looked like the perfect date. She was stunning—hair glowing in the streetlight, eyes sparkling, smile as delicate as a painting. He, of course, was busy thinking: Wow. I really scored the jackpot.
