20 Minutes In My Head

Be Scared...& Blame Judey

By Misty RaePublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 6 min read
Just Me

Apparently, there's a new thing. It's a challenge, not an official one, more of a fun little social one. There's no cash on the line. Good thing because this is something I'd either lose in spectacular fashion or win, leaving everyone else miles behind in my dust.

The challenge, if I choose to accept it, which, obviously, I have, is to take 20 minutes and list 100 things that come to mind, a brain dump, if you will.

I have time on my hands, so, welcome to 20 minutes inside the chaos that is my mind. If you enjoy it, you're welcome. If you hate it, blame Judey. I kid, really I do. It's all in good fun. Here's Judey" #100ThingsChallenge entry:

  1. I broke my toe.
  2. Who the hell breaks their toe walking into their own bed?
  3. Last week I burned my hand cooking a rack of lamb.
  4. That lamb was so good! I outdid myself!

5. I really hate sitting around.

6. I'm so bored! How do people sit on their asses all day? That has to suck. It's not even that I need or want to do anything in particular, it's that I can't. I really hate options being removed from me.

7. They say things happen in threes. Good thing I'm not superstitious, I shudder to think what else could go wrong.

8. I wonder if I'll be better by my birthday? It's 9 days away.

9. I love birthdays. I'll be 52. I don't look it. That's probably why I love birthdays.

10. This floor is filthy. Carl should sweep.

11. I don't want to ask him to sweep. He's already doing enough running behind my broken-toed self.

12. I can't take it. I have to ask him. The dog hair is driving me bonkers.

13. I really want pizza for some reason.

14. And a beer. Well, there are my supper plans.

15. It looks like rain, maybe thunder. We need it. My tomatoes and cucumbers need it.

16. I can't wait for my garden to be ready. Nothing like fresh veggies. Do I ever miss having a big garden! Oh well, my small balcony one is serving nicely for now.

17. I hate this city! It smells awful. Steel mills stink. I miss fresh air and ocean breezes.

18. I think I'll move back east, to the backwoods, but near the ocean.

19. Rudy looks bored. I think he's angry that I can't take him to the beach.

20. Carl really needs to learn to drive.

21. When did TV start sucking so bad? There's nothing on.

22. The Young and the Restless is still on. Hmmm, young? Maybe they mean young at heart? Jack must be 80!

23. Did we really watch this crap? Wow!

24. It was better back in the day. I swear. Who are all these brats?

25. Another World - now that was a good soap opera!

26. Shame about Anne Heche, she was the best Vicky/Marley.

27. I always preferred Vicky. Marley was a bore, a goody-goody.

28. I'm a bad girl at heart, I just don't have the guts to actually be bad. So, maybe I'm a good girl. I don't know. This is getting weird.

29. The wind's picking up.

30. Nice and cool today. That's a change, a nice one.

31. I should start playing my guitar again. I have plenty of time on my hands.

32. I could get Carl to take it down from the wall. I bet it's full of dust. Probably needs a good wipe.

33. Meh, not today.

34. That WHAM documentary was good. I was pleasantly surprised.

35. It sucks that George Michael's dead.

36. Anyone else feel like their entire childhood is just kind of being taken from them? Only me? Okay then...

37. Speaking of childhood...when did everyone get so old? No, seriously.

38. Wait, am I old? No, don't be silly.

39. Nope, can't watch this crap. Maybe I'll check out YouTube.

40. Those Sister Wives are something.

41. Can they really be called sister wives when there's only one wife left?

42. Why do I even care about such foolishness?

43. Maybe I'll read a book.

44. I have tons of books here.

45. My favourite book is probably Orwell's Down and Out in London and Paris.

46. 1984 is a close second.

47. I've been on a huge Orwell kick lately. Can you blame me? Look around!

48. Rabbit at Rest was really good. That was John Updike. I should get the first 3 in the series.

49. But Terrorist sucks! It's on my nightstand. I've read about 55 pages of it and they were painful! Life's too short to read a book I dislike, right? How can I love one book so much and then hate another by the same person?

50. I wonder if there are any free books at the park? Often the library sets boxes of free books out there. Nobody ever takes them. Well, except me.

51. I can't drive to the park on a broken toe! I can barely hobble to the bathroom.

52. I wonder if I can get my sneakers on.

53. No, better not. What if I got them on and couldn't get them off? Well, the one anyway.

54. Rudy needs his nails trimmed. That clickety-clack on my hardwood floors is a terrible sound.

55. Carl's got some creepy clown thing on now. I hate stuff like that.

56. He loves horror movies. I should let him have the TV once in a while, I suppose.

57. He saw my face. He turned it off.

58. Ohhhh, retro videos…

59. Survivor, they were underrated, eh?

60. Holy crap, Jimi Jamison was handsome!

61. Why was I not aware that Survivor changed their lead singer to yummy hot guy? There should have been an announcement, posters, wow!

62. I miss the 80s.

63. Gimme A Break, that was a good show.

64. Nell Carter was a force of nature! Another one, gone too soon.

65. Well, except for being responsible for bringing the world Joey Lawrence and the rest of that bowl-cut brood of super annoying children. Ugggg!

66. It's crazy that I still remember all the words to that theme song.

67. Come to think of it, I remember most of them.

68. Obviously, the best theme song ever was from The Greatest American Hero.

69. The Jeffersons would be a close second.

70. The Greatest American Hero was awful! Well, I loved it, but as an adult, I tried to watch it and it was bad!

71. Funny how some things don't hold up.

72. Three's Company. Loved it as a kid. John Ritter was a cutie! As an adult, it just seems kinda dumb. Sad…

73. Are there any good movies anymore?

74. I think the last good movie I saw was The Help.

75. Maybe I'll watch a movie.

76. Forrest Gump, now that was a movie!

77. I always liked Tom Hanks. He was my favourite actor for quite some time. Saw everything he was in until Castaway and all the space stuff.

78. Bosom Buddies! That was a cute show.

79. Peter Scolari, another one gone too soon.

80. Wasn't he in Newhart? Julia Duffy's husband?

81. She was gorgeous!

82. OMG, Too Close For Comfort! I think it was on either before or after Newhart.

83. Monroe! He was a hoot.

84. Maybe I'll check YouTube for some of those "what ever happened to" videos.

85. Little House on the Prarie, that was a good show.

86. I should write my own version, with a Black pioneer family. I've sketched it out roughly. I did that ages ago.

87. How does one even get a screenplay in front of powers that be these days?

88. I'm not exactly a screenwriter.

89. Maybe I need an agent.

90. I can't afford an agent. Ten percent of what I make is less than coffee money.

91. And I need that money for coffee.

92. It's a good thing I bought a can of coffee before I broke my freakin' toe.

93. I tend to heal fast. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to go out.

94. I'm so bored.

95. I wanted to pick raspberries. Bellevue Park is full of them right now.

96. I wonder if I called my doctor if he'd send in a requisition for crutches?

97. I should do that. I think I could drive with my left foot. I mean, I did drive a standard for years.

98. No, probably better safe than sorry.

99. Now I want raspberries!

100. Wait…my son lives right across from the park. He's 6'4", young, and able-bodied. Even better, he loves his mommy. Raspberries I shall have!

Thank goodness that's over, eh? My mind is sometimes a wonderful place. But more often than not, it's a disorganized mess, filled with lunacy, nostalgia, and the odd flight of fancy.

Full disclosure, I exceeded the 20 minute time limit by going back and adding links. So sue me. Naw, you can't, you see, I know the law, haha.

Dear Mrs. Misty - As I always scroll through your 'Presentations' I wonder what I might have missed - And, although a Vegetarian, your Chops do look yummy - it's all in the "Presentations" J-Bud

You definitely don’t look 52. I agree the theme song of The Greatest American Hero was the best. Fun read. I might try this.

  • You link bombed yourself into not accomplishing the challenge! Why, oh why?

Hey 1984 is my second favorite book! You inspired me to get some more Orwell, because like I said in my challenge submission, my favorite genre is "books to be read"

You do NOT look 52, and I guess you aren't yet actually. I think you did a GREAT job, all of this and a broken toe! And now I am humming "Look at what's happened to meeeeee"! And I am not so sure how I feel about all of this 'blame Judey' happiness. I guess I brought it on myself :-/
