Why I Really Left Nollywood Many Years Ago - Pat Attah
Pat gets honest

Nigerian actor Pat Attah was one of the most popular and beloved actors back in the late 90s and early 2000s Nollywood scene. He was a certified lover boy and was known for his charm and talent on screen. However, after years of enjoying fame and success here in Nigeria, Pat Attah made a surprising move by packing up and relocating to Germany out of the blue. He has remained in Germany ever since and built a whole new life there. Now, many years later, during a brand new interview with Vanguard, Pat Attah is explaining why he really left Nigeria and headed for Germany. Here's what the actor said.

During the interview, Pat Attah was asked: "Was it easy for you to leave your vibrant acting career and relocate? And when you got there, what was it like surviving?". He responded:
I left fully prepared. I had everything in place so it wasn't a struggle for me at all out here. Germany is like my second home. My heart and soul is here just like it is in Naija. It wasn't like I was escaping. Right now, most people are, but when I left I wasn't escaping. I left because I felt it was time to move on, it was time to try something new. Also I felt like I had offered so much to the industry as well and to be honest, I couldn't live my life the way I wanted to living there. I lived most of my life in Naija for people. I wasn't living for myself. So I needed to go somewhere where a lot of people didn't recognize me so I can just be free. That was one of the reasons why I had to relocate.
The truth of the matter is I just had to leave at some point. You can't make an omelette without breaking an egg. There are lots of things people don't know. It was the right time for me to move. I just had to leave. I needed to live my life. I needed to be free. I needed to enjoy my life a little bit. I'm not saying I wasn't enjoying life in Naija oh but I felt like I was in a cage. You know that people are looking up to you, you're like a role model to people, you can't even live your own life anymore. You can't do things that normal everyday people can do, so yeah, I really needed to move. In Germany, I can take the train, I can ride my bicycle freely and go where I want to go. And I enjoy the freedom. These are just things I couldn't do in Naija. It wasn't easy. If I don't send my PAs back then to get gas for me, if I drive out on my own to a fueling station, to a gas station, you have people surrounding my car. So I always had to take money with me everytime cuz I know once they recognize me, they all come around and I have to give them money. The money part wasn't really much of an issue, but you know, you can't be free. In as much as fame and everything, you can enjoy it, but at some point you just want to live your life like a normal person.
