Not many living actors today can boast a 30 year old career in the entertainment industry, but one man who certainly can and has remained very relevant over the years is Nollywood legend, Kanayo O. Kanayo.

As an actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo has starred in blockbuster movies including Living in Bondage, Blood Money, Lionheart, Up North, and many more. Outside of acting, he has also run for political positions but did not find success at it. It is about the latter, Kanayo O. Kanayo is talking about today.

Kanayo O. Kanayo is now 60 years old and during his latest interview with renowned journalist Chude, he expressed his fears about the state of the country, it's political space, and why he is frightened for his son. Here's why Kanayo O. Kanayo believes getting old in Nigeria is not anything to pray for.

Speaking about the country and his feelings about it, Kanayo O Kanayo said:

Why is America successful in their democracy? Because if today you are running for a political office, those who come to your house will give you money if they're supporting you and believe in you. But here, you're even carrying garden egg to the man whose house you're going to, kolanut that the man should give you. No, it's that bad. And as long as we keep on going this way, there is no future for the politics we're playing because you have to borrow money. You have to sell your house, you have to do things just to serve the people. So immediately you get into office, the first thing is to get the money back. That's the problem we have.

I'll be stupid at my age to be afraid of anybody. I'm not afraid of anybody. It breaks my heart, it bleeds me to say that getting old in this country is not anything to be praying for again. Because since we were born, we've been struggling with no electricity, no this and that, and the worst case scenario now is that you go to school, you make a first class, you go and work for somebody who failed. 60 is not an old age. In fact, I'm more vibrant now than I was when I was 40 but the thing is when I look at what's happening around, it makes your heart bleed. You ask yourself "can my son who is quiet at 20, can he be able to? What would happen to them in the next 10, 15 years? No. It's quite sad. It's disheartening.

It is honestly very disheartening and honestly, the political clime of this country is truly enough to make anybody's heart bleed. The country could be so much better, and there are so many talented, young, brilliant people who as Kanayo has correctly said, have nothing doing. The country really needs a lot of re-assessment and can truly be very heart breaking.

But that's just what I think and you've also now read what Kanayo O. Kanayo thinks. What do you think about his comment? Do you think it's too harsh? Do you think his words are too strong? Or do you agree completely with what he said? Let me know what you think by leaving a comment either below or on my Jide Okonjo Facebook post.
