Choosing the right colors is important when choosing your attire for certain occasions. If you have various colors that are not complimentary or of the same color family, you could end up looking like a clown. No one wants that so the first thing you need to understand is the color wheel and it will help you choose the right shades and colors to compliment your features or to portray your character.

Primary colors

There are 3 primary colors in the color wheel: red, blue, and yellow. These are the main colors that make all the other colors that you see except for the neutral colors which we will cover later. When you mix one primary color with another primary color you will end up with a secondary color.

Secondary colors

Secondary colors come from mixing 2 primary colors together. There are 3 secondary colors: green, orange, and purple. Green consists of mixing equal parts of Blue and Yellow. Orange consists of mixing equal parts of Red and Yellow, and purple consists of mixing equal parts of Red and Blue.

Tertiary colors

Tertiary colors come from mixing more of one primary color than another. This gives you colors like Blue-Green or Red-Orange.

Complementary colors.

Complementary colors are colors that complement each other. If you look at the color wheel, pick a color, and look at the color exact opposite of the color wheel, this give you that color’s complementary color. These two colors put side by side is appealing to the eye. A prime example is Christmas colors. When someone says Christmas colors, most people would think about Red and Green. These are complementary colors because they are exact opposite on the color wheel.

Color Families

Color Families are colors that are of the same hue or color. If a color is made with blue and has a little more of a blue hue it would be of the blue color family.

Now that we have gone over the basics of colors let’s move forward to what colors mean and how you can use them to get the effect that you are looking for before you leave the house.
