THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE (transcending culture)

I visited my local post-office - inside the village council building - to buy a loaf of bread. (A centuries old law states that all people must have access to bread in France ) and so it can be bought in the post-office if necessary). In an office at the back of the reception area - sat our local mayor. He was busy doing some admin duties with the head of reception. Our major generally always has a strong presence in the village. If there is a fete - he is at the front of the assembling team - carrying a ladder, if there is extra farming to be done, he will be sitting up front on one of the tractors and most other times - he does admin with the receptionist. It's nice like that.

Recently I had realised that I had not seen him around for well over a month and had mentioned this to a friend. So finding him sitting out the back of the mairie office - looking over some paperwork, I was pleased and very keen to say hello - as I usually do. Having greeted him I was excited to explain to him - that I had noticed his absent of late, had been wondering where he was and even mentioned it to a friend - just yesterday. I really enjoy testing out the technicalities of my French vocabulary and so began to explain this to him. The 1st sentence went by - and just hung in the air between us...So I simply repeated it. Again blank expressions. By the 3rd time I repeated it - the mayor and the receptionist began to look back and forth at each other, searching for the missing pieces - to bring forth context and meaning.

Completely undeterred, I began to make hand gestures which pointed to my eyes and then big fish/little fish to indicate stretches of time (which had passed since I had last seen him). Then began the silences…1,2,3 and 4 passed we just looked at each other. My only thought was "You need to know this...I really want you to hear this" and the more puzzled the mayor appeared - the more I longed for him to understand me. After a few more moments - the receptionist suddenly appeared to have an epiphany and shouted out..."Oh! You have not seen him for a long time and so - you wondered how he was!??". "Oui - oui!"...I agreed - excitedly. At that moment - the mayor jumped up out of his seat and held his arms out in front of him, with absolute delight and realisation. He suddenly looked so vital and energised. In that moment time and space and language differences were totally collapsed. I saw him and he had felt me…and the receptionist had engineered that 'knowing' and there was just such power in it. In that moment - all of our energies became lighter...brighter. A tangible field of potentiality burst open in front of us.

We often express limiting notions about language. “I couldn’t understand what on earth they were talking about, or “I just don’t know what to say”…Or even I cannot put it into words. The act of self expression though has never been limited to words. It is born of a far deeper, intimate and intuitive place. Our heart however, is the place which holds the highest council. The chamber which encapsulates enfolds and transmits the code of our potential in that moment. This process however, must be engineered by trust, trust and intention.

For sure – there are few things as powerful as deep recognition. Being seen and heard in ways which transcend time, space and formality. So that even barriers in language which are foreign to us - can be transcended and communicated at the level of the heart

There is nothing as powerful as deep recognition. Being seen and heard - across time, space and formality. So that even barriers in language which are foreign to us - can be transcended and communicated at the level of the heart.
