single
Whether you're solitary by choice or simply unlucky in love, being single is complicated.
Why I Took Off to Missouri
One of the reasons why I took off to Missouri was so I wouldn’t have to see or be reminded that you were with a guy who was pretty much the opposite of me, and who didn’t realize he was the luckiest guy. I know how you deserve to be treated. That’s why when he wasn’t, I played the boyfriend role. That’s why when you and him needed anything, I was there because you deserve someone who would do anything for you. That’s why when he owed me probably 100 bucks, I agreed to food at the mall just so he’ll have to take you out. If I’m being honest even before Daryl told you the truth I knew my role would always be the big brother and best friend.

I'm Not the One Who Got Away
We don't speak anymore. This time, it's my choice. We held on for so long to something that was no longer there. Something that had disappeared years before. We had no idea the hurt we were inflicting on each other by trying to have one another.

My Experience Using Online Dating Apps as an Indian Man
In the current zeitgeist, the dating scene has changed over the past ten years. Nowadays, dating is like ordering food online. Some days, you have a hankering for Mexican, Japanese, Italian, or some crazy fusion. But from my experience using online dating apps, it seems like not a lot of women want Indian.

Somewhere In-Between
I don't know really how to explain this. I am going to do it the best way I can and hope that someone understands. I am stuck somewhere in-between brokenhearted and independent. I firmly and strongly believe that I can be happy without having a life partner. I don't need him, I may not even want him. I am happy with being single, with having just me to pay for and worry about. I'm content with just spending time with my family and friends and not having another whole set of family and friends to worry about. I'm happy not to deal with the relationship drama that I hear so often from my friends. So I would say I'm pretty independent, I mean I am broke, but I am handling it on my own. Plus I am a pile of student loan debt. Who wants to marry into that?

Helping the Single Person in Your Life
There's nothing wrong with wanting to stay single. Sadly, there are a lot of people around the world who feel like being single is the worst thing ever. This leads to the thought that they must "help" you no longer be single by trying to set you up with those they deem worthy of dating you. Of course, there's a key consultant missing from this process most of the time: you. Be it friends, neighbours, family, or even just the stranger who has seen you a few times and noticed that you weren't with anyone, stopping your single life is something that people feel they are tasked to do even when not asked.

The Last Time I Saw You
I would have loved to spend some more time with you now that it was actually possible, but I do understand if you didn't want to. It got pretty weird when I walked up to you. I was so incredibly nervous, it was hot and you were cold, not that I can blame you for it. It was very clear that you didn't want anything to do with me, at least not then. Although I did see how surprised you were to see me. If you were glad or not was impossible for me to judge. I was, as I said, incredibly nervous and focused on what to say.

Alone at Christmas
Am I strange for looking forward to spending Christmas alone this year? As a single, never-married, childless woman over 40 with no nearby family, this time of year should be filling me with dread, and it would be, if I wasn’t getting to spend it alone.
