Star Janice
I was done trying, cold as one can get, and I just managed myself to survive emotionally. I’ve been dumb, still dumb but the difference is now I know it. The last episode did not end quite well so I look towards a better; not rushing any decisions. Does the heart literally break because I could die from the pain alone? The body is lifeless when the heart beats no more; my heartbeat alone feels folklore. In this relationship, I have sworn to be your commodore. It all ends under this sun huh, guess I should have expected it. Even the ghetto deserves love and my outrageous looking pockets would be patched, I’m not far-fetched from riches. Why ghost me after all these years of being public, I hope you don’t lose direction seeking your class. Staying in the gym all day riding elliptical pedals, I’m putting myself on a pedestal. The street anthem echoes in my ear every morning, “Make money and women would come to you”. My interest grew loud for building myself until I was ready to settle with the left side.

Raindrops in Merlot
Rain Drops in Merlot By J. Lenora Bresler 3-22-2021 The merlot in my glass trembled. I watched as rings of miniature waves emanated from its center. Then a giant dollop of a raindrop caused a huge crater in the tiny lake, throwing the lush, dark purple liquid up and over the rim, landing as a spreading stain on the once crisp, now wilting white napkin on which the glass rested. I looked up in defiance at the suddenly darkened sky. Magnificent Notre Dame to my right, the sonorous Seine to my left, and me in the middle of an onslaught of chilled rain that had assaulted me like a vindictive robber, snatching away my chance to revel in the perfect tableau I had created for myself.

A Second First Date Gone Right
They had gone out before, but not in a year, and somehow still just the look of her made George’s heart beat faster as Zoe sat down at the table for their second first date. She ran her hand through her long dyed white hair and smiled as she took off her coat.

Second Chances
I dreamt of him again last night; of his hands on my hips, thumbs tracing languid circles like he always did. I dreamt of his lips hovering over mine, his breath tickling my skin. I dreamt of twisting my fingers through his dark brown curls and smelling the sweet smell of him which was salt and sea and air. I dreamt of him last night and when I awoke twisted and tangled in sweaty sheets I believed, for that one sweet second between sleep and consciousness, that I was back on that tiny Grecian island in the Aegean Sea. My heart constricted in my chest when my eyes adjusted to the daylight and my surroundings came into focus. I was not back on that tiny Grecian island in the Aegean Sea. I was in my small, Napa Valley apartment, I was alone, and I was late for work.

Looking Back Now
My life started out like any other girl’s life. Normal. I was a little girl from a small Kentucky town with big dreams. And my biggest dream was Jenson James. The only thing that separated Jenson and I was a dirt road, and even then, it did a horrible job keeping us apart. We were always with each other. I can’t remember a time in my childhood when Jenson wasn’t there. I loved him before I even knew what love was. I loved the mischievous glint in his green eyes, I loved when he scrunched up his freckled nose if he tasted something he didn’t like, but most of all I loved him. He loved me because I was the only girl in first grade who was as good at basketball as him.
