love
All you need is Love, and Love is all you need.
Shangri-La
Introduction: This story was written for my life partner. We were new at the time, a love blossoming so strongly, a bond developing so quickly, that poetry and prose flowed from both of us like fluid. We wrote back and forth to one another for months. This is one of those stories...

Jacob's Raven
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. An insult to Jacob. It was a reminder of the beauty of the world just beyond his bed. Darkness ate away at him in the form of stomach pains. Lurching and consuming, they pulsed through Jacob's torso, up through his spine and pounded at his temples. He had lived with aches and pains his entire life, though not as intense as these. This vile thing demanded his attention, calling for pause from whatever he was doing. It was as if he'd ignored a smoke detector within his body for years, and now, the alarms were getting louder. The pain subsided, the purple clouds dissipated and he closed his eyes, begging for sleep.

Whispers of You
My love, who are you in the darkness? Why don't I recognize you when light shines upon your face? Where are you in the stillness, in the quiet calm of my thoughts when I am sitting alone in my mind? How do I know your every curve in your absence? My knight, my gracious lover O’ how I seek you. Are you on quests of grand delusion, slaying imaginary dragons with paper swords? Are you divested into a life that seeks to rob you of your life spark? I seek you noble knight! I seek you out and rescue you from your life of chivalrous disaster. I am here for you in the wind, in the ripples on the water at moon high. I lie in your bed as the soft caress of night fills your room. I am the whisper of hope that beckons you to great deeds , not the grandness of this fruitless quest you are on, but of the unlimited potential I shall unlock in you upon our meeting. It is the calling to your highest self that I seek in you. For in discovering the gems in your heart, I too am giving to you, the treasure of my kindness, my graciousness, my affection and chivalry. I shall rescue you from the pit of hell and meet you in the heights of a cloudless dawn.

Oh Woman…Oh Man!
How does one answer a puzzle that’s supposedly haunted humanity from the dawn of time? Looking back as I can, to more than sixty years of memories, loves unrequited and imagined, friends and their amours, apocryphal stories from legend, lore and gossip, I do believe that the answer to the question has not been found.

The Cynic's Guide to 'True Love'
It usually starts with a Disney movie. You are the doe-eyed child staring longingly at the cartoon screen as the prince and princess finally kiss before they go on to live happily ever after. Too young to have any comprehension of what maintaining a relationship with another human being actually involves.

A love letter to myself.
To you. The person who has my heart, quite literally. It is there, beating in your chest sustaining us. Loving us. There was a time when you were the person I hated most in the world. When I wanted you dead. When I was so sad that you just kept waking up in the morning. There have been times when I have questioned why people like you or why anyone would ever care about you. There have been moments where I have thought of you as the lowest of the low, not even worthy of being called a person. It has taken me years to move passed the doubts and the belief that you were a disappointment. I have to admit that I still have my moments, but they are few and very far between now. I have come to realise that I actually quite like you. Not only do I like you, but you might also be one of my favourite people.
