literature
Whether written centuries ago or just last year, literary couples show that love is timeless.
An Untitled, Unclaimed, Work of Art
I’m checking out at my local bookstore, “ That’ll be 17.12,” says the teller. “Will that be cash or card?” She proceeds to ask. “Card.” I say, glancing at her name tag instead of her eyes. Nancy, pretty. (Though I don’t believe I’ve heard of anyone with the name Nancy, outside of that show Weeds. Totally what made me start smoking if my mom didn’t).

Mustard Rays of Sunshine
Joe opens the door to the tiny -- almost claustrophobic in nature -- book store. A bell DINGS. The girl working the desk lifts her head from her typical New York magazine, this one specifically is one for fashion and all things stylish, and looks up to greet Joe. He’s a stranger, but she’s nice. Her name is Lucy. She’s (somewhat) important.

The book and money that will change the world
After not leaving the house for days I decided to go get the mail. In the pile of bills I saw a legal size golden envelope, I opened it forgetting that in 2020 I entered the contest “How to save Humanity”. I ripped open the envelope and there was a letter that read, Star Evans you have won $20,000 dollars and a 2 tickets to the 2021 Humanitarian night in Washington DC.

Use it wisely
Staring at an empty spreadsheet, my thoughts strayed briefly before my fingers began to move across the keyboard, “What could it hurt?” I murmured. Recently, an email had been sent to me about a story writing contest. The sum of money was great enough to cover my rent for a few months and my theory was that this as an opportunity to expand on my writing abilities.

Morning routine
It's 4:30 in the morning. It's cold. It's raining. Why am I doing this? What am I gaining by doing this to myself? Every. Single. Morning... I have everything. A nice cottage by Oxford. I drive a Bentley, like my father did. I should have got it in blue though. I have a safe and meaningful position at a brilliant company. I wonder what are we going to discuss during today's board meeting? What is the point?! I should be in bed...

Little Black Book
Two days after the funeral, it arrived at her apartment; a brown paper parcel, neatly wrapped, postmarked from Nina's lawyer. It stayed on the front hall table for three more days, as she was just too busy to open it. She knew what was inside. They had been told that there was no money. Aunt Nina had lived a simple life for a poet of international acclaim. Nora's brothers had been sure there was some money coming to them after Nina passed, and their anger was palpable at the funeral home when Tom Muston of Muston and Graves had approached them to discuss it. He informed them that they would each be receiving a couple of Nina's favourite books. Ned and Nelson were not the reading type. They certainly didn't display an advanced, or even non-vulgar vocabulary upon receiving this news either, and Nora had simply thanked Mr. Muston and walked away, leaving her brothers to their cursing and name-calling.
