Morning routine

The winner takes it all

By Judit KalmarPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

It's 4:30 in the morning. It's cold. It's raining. Why am I doing this? What am I gaining by doing this to myself? Every. Single. Morning... I have everything. A nice cottage by Oxford. I drive a Bentley, like my father did. I should have got it in blue though. I have a safe and meaningful position at a brilliant company. I wonder what are we going to discuss during today's board meeting? What is the point?! I should be in bed...

-Stop moaning Rafferty! Focus on running! Just 2 more miles and we are done for today. Okay? Let's follow that footpath.

Look at those enormous pine trees! They are lovely. It has been raining since Wednesday. I remember the first time I have seen Christina. She looked gorgeous in that turquoise dress. I remember the scent after the rain. She told me it's called petrichor. My shoes are getting soaked. I might need to get new pair of running shoes.

-Oh Gosh finally! I have done it! In record time. I will treat myself later on. I can enjoy my shower in peace.

I deserve it. This is the highlight of my mornings. I wonder if Christina misses me. Like I do miss her sometimes. I miss her voice. And her laugh. I loved the way she wore her hair. And my goodness her eyes. I would have done anything just to start a conversation with her. What happened? I wonder if she thinks about me. Does she still love her coffee cold?

White shirt with.. magenta, red or grey tie? I should iron my shirt. I will have my blazer on, let's forget the ironing. Everything is so painfully quiet. I should get a cat. I wish Christina was here helping with my tie. Let's forget the tie too.

-What's for breakfast?

Since when do I have breakfasts? I never had them before. Before, university I guess. Aah, when my biggest problem was to get ready for an exam. That seemed the scariest thing. Everybody sat at the very last rows just to open their books during exams. And those never ending parties. What a life that was. Full of adventure and excitement. Once I borrowed Todd's book. Did I give it back to him?

-Alright, I am ready for today. Phone, keys, car key, wallet. Where's my notebook?

I have got this small black notebook from my father to save my greatest ideas in there.

-Ah, it's in the car.

I love this car. This is my dream car. It is handmade from start to finish. I have chosen the perfect interior. I love those small details. I have studied and worked very hard to get it. I passed my theory and driving test for the first time. I was that excited to drive it. I wish Christina could see me driving it. I think I should reach out to her. We are both matured. We already know each other's shortfalls. This car feels and handles very smoothly. I love that.

-Good Morning everybody. This is a lovely day, isn't it?

-Good morning Board members. Today, I will start our briefing with the announcement of the competition winner. A month ago to the day, I have asked the Board members to come forward with an idea, which will help us re-structure our sales strategy. I have received many amazing ideas, and after careful consideration I decided to choose Rafferty's proposal. Well done Rafferty! Congratulations to the $20,000 prize money!

-Thank you very much for everybody. Thank you for your trust.

I won the competition! This is amazing. Now I can relate to Victor Hugo when he said: "Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come".
