The Unexpected Money
It was the beginning of summer in Crozet, Virgina. Crozet was one of those small towns no ones ever heard of and everyone who lives there knows everyone. Just like most small towns there won't be much to do. You could go for a hike at the park or to the library and on Saturday nights you could go roller skating at the community center. During summer the pool was open and of course there were a few ponds or lakes to go fishing in but otherwise there won't be much to do unless you wanted to ride the backroads or stay home to do whatever.

Magnificent Marabelle
Marabelle was a beautiful and strong woman who everyone thought of as successful; her ability to smile in difficult situations and provide reasonable solutions and compassion to those around her when issues arose made everyone believe she was the poster-child of prosperity.

The Little Black Book
Oh, my God! That cloud, looming over head was as black as coal. The wind was gusting. It seemed like it was blowing 90 miles per hour. My daughter, Lisa who is 5, is in my arms. The wind would have swept her away from me if I had not carried her. "We're almost there." I said to myself. A few yards away, is an underground shelter. It was designed for our neighborhood to have a safe-haven in the event that a menacing hurricane crept up to interfere with our lives. Today was that day. The wind was tearing at my face and trying to rip my daughter free from my arms. Now the rain began to pound on our bodies. We are only inches away from the shelter's door. I can see my neighbor, Mr. Taylor, beckoning for us and screaming, "Hurry, it's bearing down on you." Just as we reached the entrance of the door, the wind tried to lift me and my daughter into the air. I grabbed the side of the shelter's wall with one hand and flung myself and my daughter through the opening. We both landed on the floor. The door to the shelter slammed shut with a loud bang! My first instinct was to check to see if Lisa was okay after the fall. She was okay. "Beverly! I heard my name ring out. You made it." The Nelsons, the Browns, and the Taylors were already hunkered down and bracing themselves for the approaching hurricane.

Cherry Village
At night, my dreams are vivid and intense. I watch and read enough sci-fi and fantasy to know I’m not alone. There are others out there who feel there is some kind of parallel universe that exists within dreams. I don’t think it’s just a random array of snippets from day life that jumble up in your brain and play for your sleeping eyes.

Finding Marianne
Inflatable air dancers in front of the used-car dealership celebrated as Linda clasped the keys of her very first car. Although the interior of the car smelled of too much perfume, and one of the windows seemed to be permanently sealed shut, the price had been unbeatable.

Infinite Possibilities
Infinite Possibilities "Hey Noah! Wake up we have things to do!" Noah slowly stood up from his pile of empty bottles. "Why does my head hurt? Zeal I thought I wrote ``I no longer want hangovers in the book." Noah stood in front of a man wearing an all white fitted suit, the only prominent feature this man had was his bold yellow eyes looking through him. "I did grant you that wish Noah as for the minor concussion you might have suffered in last night's bar brawl would say otherwise but alas I'm no physician." Noah began to frantically search for his most prized possessions. "Ah here it is!" He wrote the word "a clean bill of health" in the book. Noah let a sigh of relief as the aches and pain dissolved in an instant. Since Noah had "found" a book that gives him whatever he wants Noah has been living the good life of stardom. All the parties and women, he couldn't get enough. He looked out the window of his Vegas penthouse thinking to himself that life can't get any better. If he wants money and power he can have it. The world will bow to him and only him, with the exception of Zeal of course. "You know what Zeal you have been riding me over the last few weeks. Can you please let me in on the secret you've been keeping from me." Zeal stood up and followed Noah to the bathroom, stepping over the many guests Noah had invited to his room for a little get together. "Noah please, if I tell you what it is we are looking for you may just not believe me." Noah gave Zeal a disapproving look. What more could there be he thought to himself. He has a book that grants him wishes and it has turned him into a celebrity. "Well maybe you can handle it." Zeal started by telling Noah the words that were written in the first page of his book were actually a death curse. The more Noah uses the book, the more like Zeal he would become and eventually becoming Zeal himself. "You have roughly a week and a half to find my counterpart, my dear brother's black book and make a wish to stop the curse from ending your life." Noah couldn't believe what he was hearing, he had Zeal's little white book for over three years and not one word was said about a death curse.. "Where exactly is this other book?" A perfect smile came over Zeal as he thought. "Now we can finally settle the bet, brother."

What Are The Odds?
“And the kick is . . . good!” Mario clenched his fists, grimacing as the football cleaned the uprights with just 14 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Unless his team produced another hail Mary miracle, his bet just spiraled down the drain. He pulled out a worn black pebble-leather notebook tucked inside the Sunday paper on the sofa beside him. It served as his ledger, a history book of wagers won and lost. His thick fingers slid the elastic band from around the pages and turned to a page marked by a frayed black ribbon nearly at the end of the book. He penned, “minus $1,000” in a column and focused on the total. Five hundred dollars of his family’s $5,000 savings remained. The bets had always paid off, until they didn’t, and now their savings had all but vanished. What would he tell Annette?

The Journal
A wake-up call from a doctor jolts Me up from a deep sleep and it seems like I’ve been injured. The doctor says "it's your communal joint" the nurse that has been standing in the corner seemingly watching, waiting for Me to wake up begins the procedures once I sit up.

A Bird in the Hand
They always came this way. Along by the canal, checking out the birds wading for crabs in the murky shallows, motionless one minute then suddenly bursting to life, thrusting their beaks into the thick mud in search of prey. Then through the Botanic Gardens, the lush rainforest plants luring them in with the promise of cool shade. Giant tree ferns and magnetic palms towering overhead, always with at least one dry frond rustling in the sweet, warm, silky breeze, scraping and scratching at the tree trunk. The rich, fertile smells of the earth after the night’s rain. Pausing now and then to take in the various tropical flowers, with their garish colours and strikingly odd shapes, then past the abundance of pink and white waterlilies gracing the surface of the pond. Quickly across the hot tarmac of the main road, empty of tourists in the wet season, and into the little park by the aged care place on the corner before heading home.
