A Talk About Race
The driver leaning against a black sedan straightened his tie. The well-dressed man and his associate exited the building. Smoke from the running engine pushed past the towers of snow piled on the curb. The driver brushed away a speck of ice from his wool coat. In the white-out of the frost-covered ground, he squinted. When a group of reporters appeared at the corner and rushed toward the candidate, the driver was quick to open the passenger door.

Reflecting on life
“A life well lived is hard to find.” A seventy year old man is sitting in his living room. He turns on the tv and sits on his couch. He begins to reflect on his life as he just retired recently. As a high school English teacher, he remembered a prompt he used to make his students think and they would discuss the results. He never thought about it until now. “A life well lived is hard to find…………” he couldn’t help but say it out loud. He repeated the phrase a few times and began to think deeply about it. He remembered many of the answers that his students gave him when he would ask “What does this mean?”. They would usually talk about their life goals, friends and family and overall being happy.

Tribute to Anne Rice
Looking back at my childhood, I was influenced by many authors; however, Anne Rice was my favorite. She gave us many great stories to escape to; however, my favorite was "Interview with the Vampire.". Unfortunately, this legend died of a stroke at 80 on December 11, 2021. According to CNN, Anne Rice made Lestat do things she could not. But, like many of us, Anne made a world she could escape to, and in a sense, Lestat was who she needed to escape in her 13 book Chronicle series. (Rose, 2021)

Posting My High School Essays!
Growing up in a small town did not give me a variety of surroundings or environments. I was raised on the West side of town, which was also known as the “bad side.” As odd as it sounds my family lived around the corner so I always had them around, but maybe that was a bad thing. Both of my last names had bad reputations especially for fighting. It wasn’t a surprise that when my grandma would come over twenty minutes into our visit she would receive a phone call saying something happened. That’s my dad’s side, that’s one story and my mother’s is another. Her family was always arguing, and to this day they still argue. In all honesty my siblings and I are the odd ones out and I am totally okay with that. We don’t do drugs, we don’t fight, and we don’t steal. My father raised us right. Another down side of living on the bad side of town was always seeing people in handcuffs, cops passing by our houses with the lights on, the ems rushing to our neighbor’s house because someone had been stabbed. At one point I did have neighbors my age who I had the chance to grow up with. They were nice kids, but they didn’t have the best life because of their dad. Sadly, he fell under a drug addiction, and they couldn’t handle it and moved away. After they left so did he. Months later someone new moved in. No kids my age, a bit older though, but someone I didn’t want to associate with. They had dirty money, and well word gets around fast in a small town. Weeks after they moved in, so did the people who gave them the chance to make that dirty money. Cars passing through out the night, and all day stopping there at least 3 times a day. I was scared honestly, I didn’t like to be outside I always assumed only bad people stop there, and I didn’t want anything bad to happen to me. Time passed and I became less scared, so I started going out more. I spent most of my time at home, then at school. I had friends but I never liked going out, I didn’t like socializing. I was very shy, and quiet, and it didn’t help that the family I grew up around gave my last name a bad reputation. I would be rich if I got paid for every time I heard “ Oh your related to them..? I hope you don’t cause us any trouble” I talked to my dad about that sometimes because it did make me sad, and I always thought I was going to turn out like them. Finally in middle school, I started taking advanced classes, and my parents pushed me to do good. I started getting more involved with school. As a surprise my family also pushed me. They gave me advice not to turn out like them and to finish school. My hopes and dreams are real, I want to be something one day become someone give my family a new reputation a good one at that. I want to have a great life so that my kids will have a great life, I want to raise them the way my parents raised me and I sure as hell am going to push them to follow their dreams and their hearts wherever that maybe. My parents did that for me so now I am going to try my hardest to succeed and become who I AM supposed to be.

I’ve been reading a lot of books over the past week. Sadly, I tested positive for Covid-19, and have to stay in for ten days. To keep me busy I have been doing a readathon. I’ve been focusing on sapphic romances and books I had on my reading list. I must say out of all the books I have read lately, I would say this one is my favourite. I found myself enjoying sapphic fiction because I feel I can relate to both people in the relationship. Many of the books I read lately shared a theme of romance between two women in a times where it was publically frowned upon. To this day, there’s still a lot places where open sexuality is frowned upon. Sure, it’s a lot more acceptable now, than in the book’s setting, but when there are other countries where being gay is still punishable by death, it makes you wonder how much humanity has really progressed in 70 years.

The Avalanche
Falling in love with him is terrifying. When you go into a situation with no expectations, telling yourself "No, I'm not falling in love again. I'm not being hurt again. I'm not giving myself up again," you don't expect to get swept up in everything he is. He had expectations, and I packed them up in a little box, putting them away in the closet. I had no time for expectations, but I could spare a minute for watching movies when the kids went to bed. I had no time for feelings, but I could take some time to roll around in the sheets, laughing with him while I scratched my fingernails through his chest hair. I had no time for falling in love, but with every twist and turn in the way he cared for me, I found myself pulling the box down from the closet shelf to peek inside.
