What’s your title? Are you a Lawyer? Senior Associate? Maybe you are a Sales Assistant. Whoever you are, whatever your title is, it definitely defines your life. It defines your salary, which means your budget and what you can afford. What clothes you buy, what car you drive and how often you are able to eat out. Very often it even defines how much time you spend with your family or where your kids go to school.

I’m Terrified Of Hurricane Ida
When I was younger, I didn’t realize how serious hurricanes were. I used to look forward to the school closing, and I loved the sound of rain beating against the roof and the walls of my house. I’d usually spend those days watching cartoons, playing video games, or reading. Sometimes we’d lose power, but I never felt like I was in danger. I was also never worried that I’d lose everything because I didn’t know that everything could change in the blink of an eye.

Collateral Beauty
I love my job because... It allows for an unbelievable amount of human connection. Human connection which, in a world full of technology, is becoming obsolete. It is still one of the most important reasons to be alive. Connection is a core human need and, especially during this time in the pandemic, loneliness has reared its ugly head in a way that no one ever thought it would. As social beings we are biologically wired to belong and I could spend hours talking to you about the cost loneliness causes yet, in a generation full of texting and social media, I wonder if anyone would believe me. They say we only realize the true value of something once it’s been taken away from us but I have been lucky to realize this all along.

A long while ago, I was informed by someone that I wasn't ready for the real life here on Planet Earth. They said to me that'd it'd sweep me down into the ground. I mean, look. I know I'm not the most acute appliance in the toolbox of life, but I couldn't help myself. She was staring at me, dumbfounded that I'd even approached her. She called me a loser, walked away, & that was that. I don't want to say that this one moment defined my life or anything, but it did stick with me, for sure.

I Still Feel like I'm 17.
I still feel like I’m younger than I actually am. Anyone else feel the same way? I can’t speak for anyone else, but for some reason even after graduating high school and then going straight to college, some things still feel the same way. Honestly, this doesn’t, and hasn’t been a good thing for a long time. The reason it’s specifically 17 and not older or younger, is that’s the age when I became acutely aware of my surroundings. How to perceive people; gauge their emotions and whether or not they were having a bad day or not. Putting others ahead of myself. Whether that’s really simple and mundane things like making sure they have a fresh dry towel for a shower, or making sure their drink is topped up. It’s that level of perception that really gauges how I interact and engage with individuals these days. And it’s been that way for years now. This is used particularly for the bad situations, more so than the good ones. I guess I would even go so far as to call it some kind of defense mechanism. And no matter how far ahead of the curve I am, or how many steps ahead I am of a situation before it even becomes one, sooner or later, I mess it up and the end result is always the same; me, burying me head in the sand, wondering how I didn’t foresee that one tiny minute detail, which lead to the whole situation falling out of control. And all that does is perpetuate this cycle of always trying to be ahead of the problem. Which, in reality, you can’t do. It’s impossible. And I know that. So, why can’t I stop?
