For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
On changing our destinies: the search for love...
Reading bell hooks' work was the first time my spirit felt so fired up to express myself through writing. I first read her works on love when I was 23 or 24 right after a pretty devastating breakup. The quote below stood out to me the most among the countless memorable bell hooks quotes and inspired my very first spirit-led written expression.

Demons
Everyone has his or her own demons. No, not the sort that a priest can come do an exorcist due to a possession. This sort is far worse. It is the kind developed from some sort of problem or trauma. I have heard these demons called flaws. While, others call them nothing. Flaws are someone's weak points. Weak points are like "I snore", "I do not trust easily", or "I have this scar from work and it looks ugly". The demons in which I am referring to go inward, far more inward. How can you deal with something you cannot see? How can you fight those inner demons? Well that would depend on the demon. People are in the world that have it worse than others. Some people have anxiety. That only is personal torment that most often can lead to depression. Depression is horrible too. You know you should not be sad but yet it is worse than sadness. Though those two are bad in themselves there are some that might be considered to be a bit more inward. What do most people call these more misunderstood inner demons? Psychopaths.
