humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
What if...?
A Broadway star inspires a disabled doll repainter to reach new heights. That sounds like the premise of a sappy rom-com, but that is exactly what happened to me not so long ago. Let me preface by saying this is not one of those pseudo-inspirational stories about how if we embrace our flaws, society will do the same. If you think that’ll happen, frankly you're lying to yourself. But sometimes someone comes along who defies expectations, who sees the good in our authentic self that we cannot. This is that story.

Awakening to the Eternal
Just be yourself. Three simple words we've all heard and probably, at some point, even repeated to ourselves. These words are usually spoken to us by parents, friends, and loved ones - especially when we're young. It's the universal parental advice on the first day of school: just be yourself. Or maybe it's the thing we utter when we're nervous about an impending job interview or before asking out someone we really like. Just be yourself.

I Just Forgot
I am a writer, but for twenty-five years, I forgot. I’m a writer not because there are books out there with my name on them (there aren’t) or because I get paid for each word that flows from my brain to the keyboard (I don’t). I am a writer simply because I write, and it makes me happy. I just happened to forget about this part of myself for a quarter of a century.

The grass isn't always greener..
“Jack of all trades” is what people would always say when speaking about me. From the moment I was old enough to make my own decisions I decided that I didn’t want to just be good at one thing I wanted to be good at them all. The trouble with being a “jack of all trades” is that I’m also a “master of none.” And as I got older, I started noticing people choosing one thing and being amazing at that one thing. I never had that self-confidence to stick to one thing and risk not being immediately amazing. Life was hectic enough that I never had to give my lack of self-confidence a second thought, that was until 2020.

Ideas For Your Community Impact Project
As part of the Girls on the Run curriculum, the girls create a Community impact project that aims to give back to their community in some way. The team develops ideas on who to help and how and then figure out in what way they are going to help those in need. The community impact project is a vital part of our program because the girls work together to start and complete a project using the lessons and skills they have learned all season long and watch it come together. Finishing the community impact project gives the girls a sense of accomplishment while also instilling in them the importance of giving back.

Why Do I Have Such a Hard Time Accepting Others Differences?
“Human beings, especially those who differ from us, are unpredictable and hard to control. And so, our need to control our environment – which includes other people – may make it hard for us to accept people who don't behave in the way we want them to. Of course, our prejudices also play an important part” Dumblittleman
