humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
In Over My Head
Petrified, I stood at the end of the cold, slippery diving board. My scarlet one-piece bathing suit created a red tide below me. The ripples from my classmates made my reflection look like a wavy man at a car dealership. Perhaps the water was taunting me. Come in and have a look around. My fear and embarrassment kept bouncing off the surface as an abstract self portrait projected on a distortion mirror in a haunted house.

As we grow and change to adapt to this world it becomes apparent that woman have not been allowed to embrace their power, to present the magic that they feel inside. We are buried under the rubble of our ancestors and work hard to claw our ways out. Piece by piece we move the heavy stones of our aching bodies. Female presenting people are particularly underestimated and undone by society alongside their black and brown brothers. We have been burned and bullied into submission throughout history. Yet the witches who show their bloody and broken fingers to the world and cast spells with the crimson ink are the woman who stand even when ordered to sit. They are the ones who have remembered their power, and spit in the faces of their oppressors.

The calling of the fire
They will never know the depths you have traveled. They will never see the shattered reflections and the buried. They will never be able to keep up with the chaos of myself. I have found the tear in space where timelessness speaks to me. It beckons like the light dragging me back into the forests. Back into the mountains where we all truly belong. Don't we? I sit there in the noise of it all and relish in knowing it is simply temporary. All of it. The suffering I have know and the pain of all these people. I know their fears and I can feel their agonies unspoken. In this I force myself to acknowledge to the ability to know and feel their joy in abundance. I am tired. Maybe I should step inside the tomb of the mind for a bit and find the truths of the ancients.

Lost Property
Kat’s body quietly resisted the river breeze as she cycled the gritty path, bitter aftertaste of a morning coffee on her tongue. She noticed a man sitting on the park bench nearby, a dark cloud hovering above its peeling paint. She felt his gaze upon her. Direct. Unwavering. There was something threatening about him. Kat fixed her gaze ahead.
