friendship
C.S Lewis got it right: friendship is born when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one!"
My mentor, the pianist Vol. 2
13NOV2021; 0827, SAT How fitting that the time, day, and date stamp on this particular post reminds me of my very 1st day in the Army (27AUG2007); as well as my mentor from the womb (Moms) who was born on a Friday the 13th. Just as well, I had no idea how I wanted to begin this particular "story", which prayerfully will be my very first "top story".

A Wreck of a Day
If there was anything she hated worse than cold, wet…sleeting skies, she had a hard time thinking of it. The ice built up on her car, freezing the wipers to the windshield, and try as she might, she couldn’t scrape through it . So, she just sat in the car with the defroster on full and waited. Her breath fogged the inside for a time, and it felt as if she were inside an ice cube, looking out.

I Do Not Have a Photo With My Best Friend of 22 Years. Top Story - November 2021.
I met her for the first time in third grade. Little me found an empty spot at the back of the classroom right next to her. I was sure she didn’t like me. In third grade, she would have thought I was a bitch. And that’s how all great friendships begin.

The Lilac
October started as any October I have lived before, except for one fact. One of my dear friends was dying of brain cancer. :-( She was no ordinary friend! She was the sweetest, most talented, most understanding and uplifting person I know!!! So why had she been burdened with this malady? To teach me the lesson of living EVERY day to the fullest, as she had? To teach us all to see the good in everything? Even as she lay dying, she was more worried about what was going on with me and with other friends and praying for her miracle, so that she could join us again in fun activities.

Everyone Has That "Friend"
We all have friends who have developed or exhibited some habit or trait to which we assign our friend's name directly. Often it has some negative connotation to it. Let me give you an example. You just pulled a "Josh," or that is so "Karen," as it has become quite popular nowadays. "Karen" seems to be getting all of the press nowadays as this describes someone who is generally a middle-aged white woman exhibiting obnoxious, often entitled, angry, racist behavior (and not in that order). If your name is Karen, you have taken a beating in the press over the last few years. Karen just happened to be my mother's name (I wonder how she would feel about that, but I digress).

The Final Game
Parker groaned and looked at the clock, which read 8:05 AM. From 4:00-10:00 PM on Friday night, he had been making up schoolwork that he missed during his vacation to the Bahamas the week before, and went to bed early due to exhaustion. Now, though, he perked up considerably: it was finally Saturday morning! Suddenly wide-awake, the 5’9” 9th-grader got out of bed with a pep in his step, excited for what was promised to come later in the day, at 3:30 to be exact: a basketball game. His team, the Lakers, was made up of young teenagers that had quickly become his friends – Danny, Caleb, Matt, Xander, Tyler, Dylan, and Shiv – and they loved playing together. This particular Saturday, however, was a bit bittersweet. It was the last game that all eight kids would be on the same team.

The Friends I Used To Have
Green Day. That was the band whose song was playing in the car that night. I don’t remember what song it was. My mind was elsewhere. To be honest, it was in about a million different places. I sat in the back of that car staring out the window into the cold and windy winter night.
