Decluttering my way through winter
January is finally over! It's hard to believe that February is already half over now, too. Ah, January. A month of drab cold with little to look forward to. A month of limited sunlight and people trying to do all the unfun but important things: eating healthier, exercising more, and saving money.

6 Worthwhile Action Steps for Freelance Writers
Here's the thing: when I started freelance writing, I had no idea what I was doing. I'd like to think that most people know more when they first attempt freelance work than I did. But now I'm almost four years into this game, and it's safe to say I've learned a few things.

My oddest visit to a used bookstore. Top Story - January 2025.
I remember that summer well. It was 2020, a time when nothing was normal and doing anything outside your house felt rebellious. The masks shoved into pockets, ready to be put on at a moment's notice. The odd respect for personal space that everyone had, which is literally the only thing I miss about that time, and the atmosphere of discord, isolation, and fear.

We all have something we care too much about
The Buffalo Bills lost the football game two weekends ago. I care far more about getting gum on my shoe than this fact. Getting that gum off will take far more work and cause far more annoyance for me than this team losing the game ever could.

I got engaged at a karate training weekend
Our first kiss was in the dojo parking lot. Not the most romantic spot ever, but fitting for us. We've been doing karate together for years now. One of our first dates was an extra training session to work on self-defense. My idea of a romantic guy is one who knows me well enough to get me a sword over flowers.

The Librarian
Disclaimer: The original version of this story was my submission to an open call writing challenge from Air and Nothingness Press. The challenge gave the story idea and guidelines that I followed. All winners would have their stories published in The Librarian Anthology. The Librarian was a character who could travel anywhere and to anytime, acting as a force for good. My story did not make the cut, but it's here for anyone who wants to read it.

Forget a Batgirl movie; can we get an Oracle story instead?
Wait, they were making a Batgirl movie? That was my initial thought when I heard about the cancellation of the Batgirl film. Guess I'm not up to date with the happenings in the film world of DC. Add the canceled film to the growing list of DC efforts that left fans disappointed.

Revisiting Brave
Warning: The following contains spoilers for the movie Brave I'm preparing a performance to the song "Touch the Sky" from the movie Brave. It's for a karate event, but it's going to involve dressing up like Merida. To get in character, I decided to rewatch the movie. The last time I watched it was shortly after it came out in 2012.

My dear nephew,
My dear nephew, I celebrated becoming an aunt when I found out my sister was pregnant with you. I was excited about what the future would hold. As the day of meeting you face to face came closer, my anticipation continued to build. You came five days after your due date, so I might have been a bit on edge with the waiting.
