Speaking about mothers putting their children on leashes and the backlash she got, Stella Damasus said:
STELLA DAMASUS: I posted a video where I was talking about the fact that it is totally wrong for mothers to put their children on a leash, that thing that they use to hold dogs. So I made a video and I said I don't care how badly behaved your child is, or whatever it is that is wrong, you cannot put your child on a leash. If there is a problem with the child, see a therapist or see a doctor, or find ways to help that child. But it is not acceptable to put your child on a leash. And after I posted the video, I got a lot of comments from women saying "you're judging me", "this is a very judgmental video", "you don't know how these children are", "madam you should read up, when you read up, you will understand autism, you will understand spectrum, you will understand children with special needs", "we are doing it to protect them, somebody's leg got broken because she was chasing after her child, a car almost hit her", "madam you should be thanking God you don't have special needs children, you're laughing at those who have", and the comments went on and on.
I say NO! These children are human beings. God gave them to us to nurture and take care of them, and I repeat and insist, if you have a special needs child, there are therapists there that would help you. Do the research, there are so many blogs written by women with special needs children who will teach you how to take your children out without treating them like animals. People who are talking all these negative things, they're probably guilty of it cuz one of them actually said "stop judging me, you don't know what I have been through". I know a mother of two special needs children and she will put one of the children on her body, and the other she puts on a stroller. There are ways to take your child out without putting them on a leash! I don't understand how someone will give birth to a child and treat their child like that.
