Show Up for Yourself

I constantly show up for myself, proving that I can do anything, that I can be anything, that I can have anything, and that I can get through anything as long as I show up for myself. Yet, I couldn’t see this about myself.

I lost sight of myself, trying to be everything I wasn’t. I never saw my true self, Only what I thought I should look like. Thinner, I could be lighter, darker, I could be more sociable, then people would like me more. I could be more available, but that only got me used. I can smile when I don’t feel like smiling and take on everyone’s problems without ever trying to take on my own.

Well… did that do me any good? Did it make me stronger? Absolutely! Did it push me forward? Actually, yes. Did it help me become who I am becoming at this very minute? Yes, it did. And I would do it all over again to have the type of love and understanding of myself that I have right now.

Even when I didn’t see myself, I was there all along. Though I missed all the good I did in the world, I look back and see the smiles I put on others’ faces. The joy that was in the room because I smiled that day. My availability brought help when someone needed it. When someone did not feel strong, I knew that I could be strong enough to help them through it.

Stop and take a moment before proceeding….

Close your eyes and think about all the times you brought joy to the room. Maybe you were joking with your friends and family and maybe laughing with your coworkers, the smiles and the happiness on your children’s or your spouse’s faces. Their smiles should be enough to keep you going. It should give you the strength to walk in your essence, knowing that you genuinely improve lives! Even if it is only for a moment.

Don’t move forward until you’ve done this.

Today, I am showing up for myself by seeing my good. You don’t survive in this world by lying down and taking it. You are still here because you showed up for yourself even when it was hard. Even though it is hard right now, you are showing up for yourself.

Through every breakup, through every death, through every layoff, through every eviction, through every miscarriage, through every fight, through lonely nights crying, every “how am I going to get through this,” YOU DID IT! You must continue to show up for yourself. See the light at the end of the tunnel and shoot for it. Don’t stop! If you get stuck, ask for help. Pride is a dangerous thing. Don’t let yourself hinder your progression. This means getting up and fighting yourself daily to be more positive. It means to get up and be a more vibrant you. Get up and be happier because you made it through another day. Tomorrow is not promised. How will you show up for yourself today? Start with just getting out of bed. Take a walk and listen to motivational speeches. I love listening to Oprah! Simply breathing, to know that you have life in you today when someone else did not.

I hope that this brought you some sort of light today. Continue to bring smiles to those that surround you.

I love this. So positive and motivating. Definitely good for someone who could be wallowing in depression. I think the motivation to even READ is a huge blessing because I remember a time when I didn’t have the mental energy to read more than a paragraph. That’s how mentally drained I was. Thank you for your light and all your efforts to make the world a better place. I love you, my pretty and sweet little sister.
