One Kind Act Changes Lives Forever

I can’t pick one kindness that has completely changed me, but I do acknowledge and am grateful for the everyday kindnesses of people. It restores your faith in humanity.

Today I was out and about for some bank related work and I was in a bit of a hurry. When I got out of the car I saw a woman the age of my mother smile at me across the road. I smiled back. In a moment my frazzled state of mind just calmed down. Same thing happened day before when I was terribly late at attending the morning puja of a temple, the head priest saw me approaching the deity and he smiled at me, a very wide hopeful and well meaning smile that took away all my worries and my faith in God and humanity only grew stronger.

We underestimate these small kindnesses. Unfortunately I am of the unlucky lot where I had to be at the receiving end of very unkind behaviour, and so these small acts and gestures are always infinitely valued by me. I know how powerful they are and that is why I have always made sure that I am always helpful and kind to every person. Even if it means just smiling at them. Very recently I helped a very young girl start her ATM card. She did not ask at all for help but was standing inside the ATM puzzled and nervous. I asked her if she needed help and then just went ahead and taught her everything.

A while ago I used to feed two very poor and aged women. I do not like to share all this, but what I want to share is the incredible warmth and smile that I saw in their faces when they used to see me. That fills you up with so much positivity.

More than receiving kindness, practising kindness has definitely restore my faith in humanity. This I have been doing since I was a kid, but now as an adult, when I feel the world has been in some way unkind to me, I definitely go out and do something good for strangers. That day I also am particularly more helpful and understanding to my family members.

You see, the circle stops at you, you can make the world a better place. You always have that option.
