New start

"Okay my map app is saying i'm almost there!" Brittany grunted to herself while making a right turn at the intersection.

She began to slow her silver Ford Taurus down as she glanced out the window, attempting to focus on the address numbers on the buildings.

"Don't be surprised baby it's just me" blared from the speakers of her car as Brittany sang along to a Jhene aiko song.

"4405 4403 4401" Brittany mumbled while she pulled into the parking lot

"Your destination is on the left" said siri from her iPhone 8.

She then put her foot on the brakes and switched gears into park.

Once the song was over she grabbed her phone and yelled "siri call keisha!"

She waited patiently until Keisha answered on the 3rd ring.

"Hello" said a stern but soft voice from the phone.

Brittany asked "Is there a certain place that I shouldn't park at girl?"

You might want to park on the north side of the building, it's new year's eve only god knows how many drunk drivers are out there tonight Brittany and I don't want anything to happen to your vehicle.

"Okay I'm outside I just have to find a spot to park and I'll be on my way up Keish."

"Okay bestie" Brittany hung up and proceeded to find a parking spot.

After finding a parking spot and securing her doors to her car Brittany entered the building 4401 and found apartment number 108.

She rings the doorbell

ding dong

"It's open" yells Keisha

Brittany walks in unprepared for the sudden embrace of keisha.

"I can't believe your really here love, give me a hug" keisha screamed in a playful manner

Brittany doesn't hesitate to hug her best friend back.

They walk into the living room laughing and cheerful that the long time friends still feel a close connection to one another.

Keisha sits down in the love seat while Brittany sits in the lazy boy and the tea begins to spill. They spend close to 30 minutes exchanging stories about fights , boy flings , and job ventures.

Brittany noticed the familiar bowl that sat on the shelf of what she thought was a book collection.

"You still have that old thing" Brittany asked with a sort of grin on her face.

Keisha stared at the bowl remembering all the years that they shared memories with it.

"Please tell me you have a pen laying around her somewhere?" Brittany stated.

"You know that's not a bad idea," keisha replied.

She stood up and walked into her room, grabbed a pen and a single piece of paper. Thinking to herself I will commit to whatever is selected for me. Keisha returns to the living room while ripping the paper into 10 smaller pieces. Brittany receives 5 pieces and keisha keeps 5 pieces , they both begin writing ideas that would make the next year better for them.

Keisha yells "done!"

Brittany replied "me too"

They throw the pieces of papers into the bowl and start to mix them up.

Brittany nudges Keisha and asks "Do you want to go first?"

Keisha replied "why not?"

She then reaches her hand into the bowl to pick out her new year's resolution, i don't think she had any idea that this decision would be the start of an adventurous future. She raises the piece of paper and reads out loud!
