My Humor Is A Double Edge Sword

Might have caused a problem for myself

My best friend is upset with me. I might have gone too far with my recent shenanigans, rather A Shenanigan. After that, she stopped talking with me. But before we get right into it, it is better to give a description of what our friendship looks like. Well, it has only been a year and a half since we met. We are pursuing our Master’s Degree and met on the first day of college. We enrolled about two months later after the session began. Coincidentally, both of our first days happened to be on the same day.

Being new to the group, I was nervous about how to approach everyone. So, the first person I talked to was her because I thought she might be going through the same thing. We started our conversation, and it has been going on for more than a year. Moreover, we also travel together since we stay close to each other. While we are in college, we converse with everyone, crack jokes, study, and have a merry time.

However, the real conversation starts after college is over. We have shared tons of things that are unknown to our friends. One reason for becoming compatible is that we both are dog people – Isn’t that great? She is a quiet girl, who mostly lives in her fantasy, and sometimes shares valuable insights. On the other hand, I am a jokester, who takes nothing seriously. My sense of humor is always turned on, even though it gets out of hand sometimes.

Now, that our introduction is complete let me get to why she is upset with me (well, the introduction is not entirely complete because there are tons of things to write, but that is for another time). I traveled to college by shuttle, while she used to travel by bus. But, recently, she shifted to shuttle too. A couple of days back, while I was traveling by shuttle, she called me. Since she was on the next shuttle, she called me and asked me to wait at the drop location. It is a few minutes’ walk from the drop location, so she wanted to walk together.

It was a simple request, I could have easily waited for her. But instead, I walked on my own, reached college, and attended the first class. After 10-15 minutes, I saw my phone ringing. She was calling me. I did not pick up. She called me SEVEN times, but I did not pick up. Then she called one of our batch mates and learned that I had already reached college. She reached college and instead of sharing a smile, she straight went to her seat. I could feel something was off, but could not figure out what.

I knew she was upset with me not picking up her phone, but there was something more. After our college was over, I learned from our mutual friend that she was searching for me like hell after she got off the shuttle. She was afraid that something might have happened to me and was looking here and there. It was definitely not on my mind to scare her like that. I thought that since I was not picking up her call, she might directly come to college.

I felt so sorry for scaring her like that and making her worry so much. After that, she stopped talking to me. I mean I know that I can it hard for people to stay around me but I bear no evil motives. Since I made a mistake, it is my duty to make it up to her. She went home separately that day. My humor sense created the problem, so it is upon my humor sense to solve it.
