3 Simple Steps to Better Interactions
Working in communications has taught me a lot about how people interact in just about every place and every situation in the world. It's fascinating to see how someone from one region of the world or a particular socioeconomic status engages with someone from a completely different one. Everything from eye contact to the amount of words exchanged can totally differ. Some might be more soft spoken, while others very engaged and dominant in the exchange. After countless interactions and connections I made with people regardless of age, title, level of education and cultural background, I've been able to identify 3 basic things that play a huge role in virtually every interaction you'll make.

I Can't Help but Find Myself in the Backseat of Your Car
It all started with the backseat of your car. I was all too familiar with it back there. How we quickly masked the new car scent with the smell of sweat and cigarettes. Marlboro reds, with the hint of pot still lurking around your lips. Nothing good ever lasted with us, and that was one of those things. We’d park in the back of the McDonalds parking lot. The same parking lot I used to get drunk and high in a year prior. The same parking lot where I broke up with the boy who I lost my virginity to because I was young and stupid and no one ever knows what they want when they’re in high school, while they feel like they have the entire world in the palm of their hands. But that all seemed like a different lifetime when I was in your arms and your windows were fogged.

An Evening Out
It was my second date with A, and I really wanted to bring my (sorry) "A-game" (I'll see myself out) on this date and make a really great impression. I had grown to like her over the lengthy course of our first date. And so I told her I was going to take her to see a live music show. She had never done that before, and so this was (accidentally) a really good call.

A Talk About Broken Promises
Most if not all of you have been through breakups. Anyone who has been through a breakup knows they hurt like hell, especially if you were the one who was being broken up with. However, I have found that, in my experience, the thing that hurts more (especially in the case of serious relationships/ long-term relationships) is the broken promises that come with the breakup. He swore he was never going to leave? He turned around and left you. She said she would never love anyone but you? Look at her, loving someone else!

The Moment I Knew I Was in Love
The moment I knew I was in love? That's hard. You see, I have so many little moments like that... and all together, like a puzzle, they somehow fit into this beautiful, messy, sappy sort of a story. It started so many years ago, and hasn't really stopped yet. Someone asked me, when was the moment I fell in love? But I suppose in order to answer that question, I'd have to start from the beginning until the puzzle is complete.

Who Are We?
The world is so set on telling its younger generation to both "be themselves" and follow the latest trend. Being a teen is enough of a challenge without the pressure of feeling lost in ourselves. When we try to define ourselves, are we really just traits and trends we picked up from other people? Is that really your style or are you wearing it because a Kardashian wore it? Do you truly like that basketball team or were you just following LeBron around because he was the most popular baller?

A History of Transgender People, Volume III
The intense West African sun beats down on the Bandiagara Escarpment in central Mali. Against the escarpment’s face, tucked in the shadow of a large outcropping, is a village that; if one saw only a photograph, one could be forgiven for assuming it was an old Hopi or Anasazi village in the American Sonora. However, this village is inhabited by a people called the Dogon. The Hogon, the spiritual elder of the village, tells a story:

Exes and Oh's: The Finale
SERENA New Years Day. A day where people made resolutions for the new year. Some tried to lose weight. Some set financial goals. Some were determined to find love and make it last. For the five of us, today's goal was to make it through this meeting with Rita and Gabe's lawyer. We hadn't succeeded in finding Gabe's murderer, and we decided it was only fair if we handed the investigation over to the professionals. A million dollars held no value next to justice. And Gabe deserved as much. Rita as well. Which was why Daniel had reached out to her and asked her to meet us at the lawyer's office before we all went our separate ways again.
