Chaos and Chagrin
This is gonna be a spicy one, folks. Strap in. Seth Rogen really stepped in it. I mean, he really, really stepped in it. And just so you know, I don't want to be writing this. What I want to write is an analysis discussing The Avengers: Endgame as a spiritual successor to the Golem of Prague. And I will. Dibs. But for right now, I have to talk about a small mountain of middle-aged right-wing pissbaby pundits, exemplified by the dumbest of them, Jonathan Tobin; and young, overly-idealistic American leftists, many of whom aren't even Jewish, who wouldn't know or care anything about the Palestinian people were it not for the occupation, weighing in on a topic that is complexity itself, and reducing it to "Well, you shouldn't have done that thing back after the Shoah."

So far in this series, I've discussed myth and legend. This is, on its surface, is not great historiography; but a culture's myths and legends inform their worldview. Perhaps not always in the most intuitive or impactful ways, but it does say something about the zeitgeist, especially when it comes to divisive or transgressive issues like gender and especially gender nonconformity.

In a time approximately 500-1500 years after the Mesopotamian cultures shared stories about Asu-Shu-Namir rescuing the goddess of love from the underworld, the Ancient Greeks had arisen, formed complex sea-spanning empires, developed a very silly beef with Troy, destroyed Troy, forgotten how to write, relearned how to write, but with a better alphabet this time, and wrote quite extensively about the stories they had told themselves when they forgot how to write.

A History of Transgender People, Volume I
Important note: Historiography is a living science. It evolves with the sensibilities of those who practice it and the cultures that consume it. It's the science of how we do history. Originally, the idea posed by the Greek historians was to pass on a story that was engaging and compelling and they would use that story to tie in a moral. Obviously, modern historians tend to shy away from this model in favor of a more rigorously sourced and researched method that is much harder to read.I'm not a professional historian, and as such, I'm not bound to the state of the science for the sake of my professional reputation, such that it is. So I am free to tell an engaging story at the expense of not having ready access to primary sources, because again, I'm a hack. And because I'm a hack, I'm going to try to make sure that you won't get bored of my writing. So I'll keep it relatively short, tell one story, and break my combined knowledge up into ten sections.

Reflecting on Happiness
It’s a beautiful day in Des Moines. It’s not too hot, not too bright, just warm enough to wear a light dress with a light cardigan to cover my regrettably-tattooed shoulders. My roommate standing across the counter from me, is talking about unimportant stuff, cracking jokes… I sit, graciously receiving the humor and responding in kind, munching on peanut butter pita with a drizzle of honey and thoughtfully sipping on fresh mango lasse he had just made.
