How A Part-Time Freelance Writing Gig Can Change Your Life
No experience required, only desire

I feel like it was just yesterday that I was dreaming about writing as a career.
Of course, by yesterday, I really meant years ago. But isn't that how time goes? You blink, and suddenly it's the future.
So while it felt like yesterday, the truth is I really started taking my writing seriously about 3 years ago.
Maybe like you, I simply knew that I wanted to be a writer but just wasn't sure what type of writer.
I mean, did I wanna write blogs for money? Tackle e-books as a money maker? Or maybe become a creative non-fiction ink slinger.
Well, either way, whether you know it or not, it all starts with the desire to just wanna write.
Yes, I'm aiming this straight at folks who are or wanna grow as freelance writers.
The ability to learn, grow, and eventually transition into this career is super exciting. To begin with, if you're not fully onboard that freelance writing can utterly change your life, lemme just share a few ways mine has been positively impacted.
Money.
As a freelance writer (even part-time), you can make as much money as you want.
It's not a set 9 to 5 salary, but per word or per project rates in the beginning. And those rates depend on you, your skill set, and the type of writing you do.
For example, I made $50 for about a 600-word blog post as a new freelance writer. But after a short time (and more experience), I increased that rate to $200 per post.
Location freedom.
This is a biggie and one of the main reasons I went freelance writing in the first place.
I wanted to be able to travel and not be tied down to one location. And being a freelance writer allows me to do just that. Granted, I'm not making 6 figures (yet), but I am earning enough to cover my travel costs and then some.
In fact, I spent nearly 18 months living and working in Scandinavia while servicing my clients back in the US.
Choose your own hours.
This is another biggie for me as I am not a morning person. AT. ALL.
So being able to start my work day at about 9 or 10'ish (or later) is terrific for me. Granted, some deadlines must be met, but for the most part, I can choose when I work.
What's even better is that I can take days or weeks off if I want and not have to ask for permission from a boss. Granted, this may not be possible when you first start out, but as you build your business, you will have more control over your time.
Loving my "work."
I never thought I would say this in a million years, but I love what I do.
It's true. I get to write about things that interest me and help people simultaneously. What's not to love about that? Of course, there are days when it's tough, and I don't feel like writing. But for the most part, I enjoy it and am so grateful to have found my dream job.
The final word
I'm not saying freelance writing is easy. It does take work, dedication, and a willingness to learn and grow. But if you desire to write, it can be an enriching career that offers financial and lifestyle freedom.
Even better is that it's a career where you can start part-time and grow into full-time. So if you're feeling stuck in a job you hate or simply wanting to make a change, freelance writing just might be the answer.
