Hey Brother

A Letter Of Gratitude

By Dr. Cody Dakota Wooten, DFM, DHM, DAS (hc)Published about a year ago 3 min read

Hey Brother,

Did you know that I Love You?

I Hope you Know it, even if I'm not great at saying it.

I've been thinking a lot lately - writing does that to you.

We became Friends at a Point of Life I thought was High.

I thought I had a lot of Friends at that time.

I thought Nothing Could Go Wrong.

But You and I both Know what happened.

In Less than a Year, My Life Crashed.

I Learned the Truth.

I had Very Little.

I was Abandoned by those I Trusted Most.

Felt Stabbed in the Back.

Felt Utterly Hopeless.

Then, when my "Happy-Go-Lucky" Deamenor Vanished, I Learned I had Nearly No True Friends at University.

Really, I only had One.

You.

When My Heart was Crushed.

When My Soul was Crushed.

I Still Had You.

There were a few others who Cared about me, but None of them were Close.

There was little they could do from a distance.

But you Stood by Me.

Literally.

There were days You Asked How I Was.

I probably Lied.

Said I was Fine.

I'm Certain You Knew.

You Still Checked On Me.

Were There For Me.

Made Sure I Was Not in Complete Solitude.

I'm Thankful you did.

I Honestly Do Not Think I'd Be Alive If You Had Not Been There.

I Remember Days, Looking Out the Window.

Contemplating the End.

Three Stories is High Up.

I Could Have Easily Written The End of My Story.

Yet, I Did Not.

I Still Had a Light Beside Me.

You, Mancurundur.

My Brother of Blessed Skill.

I'm so Glad You had the Love within you to Stay by my Side.

Life has gotten so much Better since then!

All the Things I Would Have Missed!

Being by Your Side for Your Wedding.

I still think about your Bachelor Party.

Are we going to do a Guy's Weekend?

We were supposed to, and we Definitely Should Soon.

Or Me Finding True Love?

My Own Wedding?

I think about Your Best Man Speech all the time.

Your Words made my Heart Overflow with Joy.

Or what about your Career?!

Seeing You Get Your Own Solo Show?!

I always Knew You'd Get Here, and it is just so amazing to see you at this moment!

Your Art has Changed Over the Years, yet Your Skills Never Disappointed.

I Remember your Industrial Watercolor Work at University.

Absolutely Incredible.

Then the Transition today where you Mix Cultural Symbols into Masterpieces of Modern Meaning?

Mind-Blowing!

I have No Clue where your work will go Next, but I'm Excited to See It!

Then there is also Dungeons and Dragons…

"#ThorinNation - We do it for you! It's all about the Fans!"

Our Audience may have only been 3 People, but it was Fun in our Goofy Campaign.

It would be Nice to Finish that Campaign Someday… No Pressure… Just Saying.

Then I think about my Career so far.

The Stages I Stood On.

The Daily Articles I Write.

The Ludicrous Amount of Recognition I've Received.

You can go Count Them.

The Truth is None of these would have happened if You Had Not Been Around.

To Help Me Stand Up.

Your Light Reignited Mine.

They say that the Family You Choose can be as Powerful as Blood.

It's True.

I Love My Family.

I'm So Thankful that You are My Brother.

I have No Clue what the Future Holds.

One Thing I Do Know.

I Can Not Wait to See It.

Your Light Continues to Brighten.

I'm Eternally Blessed that You Chose to Shine Toward Me.

I Love You, Brother,

Cody
