Iyabo Ojo during interview

During the interview, Iyabo Ojo was asked "As a single mom, what was the hardest part of raising kids by yourself?". She responded:

IYABO OJO: It was having to hide my pain. Because I just said to myself "my kids, I'm gonna love the hell out of them and I'm going to raise them with so much love that I'm not even going to make them feel this mistake that I have made." Because it wasn't their choice to be born into an unsettled home, so I said I was going to raise them in love. So even when I'm in my worst lows, I always have to hide. It kinda helped me build my strength but it was painful initially having to do that. Most times I'm crying and they're coming in, I have to smile. My kids would never - if I'm going down, I will call one of my sisters to come and take them out, take them somewhere. If I needed to vent - most times I'm venting, they run into the room, I say I'm fine. I just kept lying, lying, lying. Christmas times I had to always make sure, for years - I mean, Priscilla clocked 15 or so before she could realize that hello, you're actually divorced? Because they never felt it. They never knew. I made sure that every Christmas they got double gifts, from mom and dad. Every Easter. I did that for the longest of time. And every time they'd ask about their dad, I'd say "oh he's a traveler" so they grew up with that. I called [their dad] that "oga, if you want to hear from these kids, if you want to be seeing them, you better not tell them another story. You're a traveler". I gave him access to see the children, I gave him access to everything.

She's a very strong woman - and every single woman out there who is a single mother, I cut cap for you and I pray for continued strength for you. It is not easy, at all!
