As a little girl Mya always dreamed of her happily ever after to be just like Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. Disney movies were Mya’s saving grace as a child! Even though they weren’t real, they were real enough for her at eight years old. Mya never really had much to smile about. It was always home, church, school, and repeat.
Church wasn’t so bad but the constant ridicule and embrassement from her fathers congregation didn’t make going to church five times a week any easier. It wasn’t until She turned on the television and saw the simmering, shinney, Disney castle making her heart skip a beat that she had a taste of happiness, happiness that she knew she would someday want as a reality.
Mya always knew that once she grew up and could make her own decisions, she was definitely going to leave home and find her happily ever after.
Never in a million years did Mya expect her father to pass away so soon! She was about 12 years old when he passed away and everything in her life was going downhill. She was smoking, drinking, skipping school, fighting, and hanging out with all the wrong people. Mya had not done a single thing to make her father happy or proud and boom! He was gone...just like that, without her fixing her ways, making him proud or being able to say goodbye.
Mya’s mother had struggled for years raising her and her eight siblings and when her father passed away she made things worse for her mother because she had no idea on how to deal with her pain. So she took it out on her mother.
Mya’s mother eventually grew tired of her selfish and disrespectful ways, so she sent her to live with her older sister in Ohio who was serving in the United States Army at the time.
Mya honestly was both excited and sad about her mother’s decision. She was excited to finally leave home and start over and find her happily ever after but sad she had to leave her mother and siblings behind but Mya knew she had to go. There was nothing for Mya back home. She was just in so much pain and coping with it in the most negative ways.
Finally! Mya was in Ohio. Her new beginning. She had new friends, new surroundings, and her sister to help her get her life together. Things were going so well for awhile but Mya realized that she was still in pain and started missing her mother and her home. Mya eventually started doing the same disrespectful and selfish things she was doing to her mom to her sister. She lied to her, disrespected her and made her life hell!
Mya’s sister grew tired of her ways just like thier mother did and told Mya she had to figure things out on her own. Mya’s sister got married and left Ohio during her senior year of high school. Mya started living with multiple friends to get through the year and tried her best not to drop out of high school. After all she was alone in a state with no one to turn to. It was however, all her fault she was in the position she was in.
Mya woke up one day and realized she couldn’t take sleeping from couch to couch anymore and needed to find a way to make changes in her life. This was not the happily ever after she was dreaming of!
After Mya graduated she decided to join the Army. She enlisted in 2013 and got stationed in South Korea. That’s where she met her knight and shining armor, her happily ever after, her husband. She was happy! He was perfect! He made her feel safe, confident, sexy, and irresistible. She felt like he was proud to have a woman like her. Every time he looked her in the eyes, She felt like she was the only woman in the world that mattered to him. Mya and Devon were together a year and half before they tied the knot and Mya was so happy. No one could tell her that she didn’t find what she had been looking for years and that was her happily ever after, or was it???
Mya and Devon were expecting their first child when they decided to move to Germany together. Mya was supposed to go to Hawaii and Devon was supposed to go to Germany. He was so adamant about them staying together that he made sure Mya got stationed in Germany with him. Mya loved that about him, that is exactly what made her say yes to him when he asked her to marry him. His Persistence and sincerity!
Mya and Devon were happy and Mya felt like she finally had her new beginning she worked so hard to get. As Mya grew bigger and more pregnant, Devon became more absent. He was staying out late, coming home extremely drunk, and ignoring Mya intimately. Mya made every attempt to statisify her husband because she knew something was wrong.
The more Devon rejected Mya, the less confident Mya became. Mya didn’t wanna believe anything was wrong, she especially didn’t want to believe Devon was growing out of love with her. Mya would bring this up to Devon’s attention and he would always reassure her that he had just been under a lot of pressure at work and that his anti-depressants were killing his moods.
Mya simply told Devon that they would get through their rough patch and everything was going to be ok.
Years went by and Mya and Devon had two baby girls and were one year away from leaving Germany to move to their new home in Florida. Mya was in the kitchen one day preparing things for the movers to pack. Her phone had been broken for months and Mya came across Devon’s old phone that was still pretty functional. Mya thought nothing of it, she was simply going to switch her phone to Devon’s phone so she could have a phone that worked.
Devon was fast asleep upstairs while Mya was fixing her phone up. When Mya plugged Devon’s phone into her computer, Devon’s phone started to automatically upload all of his old data. Mya saw so many odd messages and numbers popping up. What made her start snooping was that majority of Devon’s unknown numbers were blocked!
Mya started thinking to herself, “No! Not Devon! Not my husband!” Her happily ever after was turning into a happily never after in the span of five minutes. Mya was Catastrophizeing before she actually knew why so many numbers were blocked.
After Mya calmed down, she immediately told herself she needed to know for sure. So she saved each unknown blocked number in Devon’s phone to call and text them. She saved each number by numbers from one through 15, and sent out a mass text saying “ Do you know this man and have your ever been out with him” she also attached his picture and sent it to all 15 numbers. She felt crazy and insecure but in her head she had to know!
As Devon was still upstairs sleeping Mya sat and waited until she got some responses.
An hour later Devon’s old phone rang and buzzed. Mya looked at the phone on the table and listened to all the buzzes, chirps, and rings.
What was she going to find???
