Get Up And Go

Sometimes You Just Need To Do It

Introduction

Sometimes you want to do things but it maybe feels a bit too much. It feels like your "get up and go" has got up and gone. Today I was feeling like that but this is what happened. Another voice hit me with the Nike mission statement, "Just Do It" so I took to the road and just did it.

The music is "Let's Go" by The Cars a far better song than the insipid "Drive" which you usually hear by them.

So This Is What Happened

Since Friday I have been wanting to go for a coffee to Northern Slice but due to the pressure of work and other things I have not been able to make it. Today I finally blocked out an hour or so to go down for a coffee, or so I thought.

It's probably about a mile and the route I chose was the shortest but is on a long slight gradient. Sometimes I get short of breath when walking, but I think it is just a hangover from the cancer that touched one of my lungs.

The weather was good and I wanted to go, one of the reasons was to tell my friend Natalie that I couldn't make her gig at the Cumberland Arms this Saturday because I need to be in Scotland this weekend, and she does make great coffee.

So I kept on going and though it is probably just less than a mile, as I turned into Nunsmoor to get to Northern Slice I felt good and felt I had accomplished something,, I always do when I get to where I want to be on my walks.

I had intended to have a coffee but then saw caramel frappé on the drink list so went for that. Natalie told me it was low fat/sugar, but it looked amazing and tasted even better. My interview with Natalie is just above and you can hear some of her music and see some of her performances as well.

As well as the caramel frappé and have a cookie which I thought contained sultanas or raisins, but those bits were chocolate, so that was another win.

There were a lot of people there so I shared a table with a local lady who I talked books with and spent about twenty minutes before I took my leave to walk home across Nunsmoor and back to work.

I was so happy that I had got up and gone to get a drink and take some time out from work.

A Cat in 'Nam now A Cat of Vocal

On my way home I pass a house that has a rainbow in the window and sometimes there is a cat. Today as I was passing the cat was on the back of the settee and the lady of the house was just coming home. I asked if I could take a pic and share it on Instagram and she said yes, and take as many pics as I want. She told me her daughter (the cat's owner) was at university and was always taking pictures of cats.

As we chatted the cat came to the rainbow window and I took quite a few pictures and you can find them on Instagram using the hashtag #CatsOfVocal or #CatsInNam

Conclusion

So today I had a wonderful break and met one good friend and maybe made some more. I may not see them again, apart from Natalie, but I feel really happy about how today turned out, and it also inspired me to write this feel-good story and the dystopian nightmare of my last Vocal story.

I have had a good day and I hope that you have too, now it's time for tea.

Oooo, a Caramel Frappe! I would love to try that! So glad you finally met Natalie and had a great time!

  • Good for you, Mike. Although I gotta say, this sounds like there should be a little more to the story. You have the coffee & tea. Shouldn't there be a "me" that comes next?
