Compulsions

In the house where I was staying in America, there was a maid — a Pakistani woman — who tearfully shared her story. She told me how she had come to America with her husband in search of better employment.

Millions of Pakistanis are living in America who have migrated from Pakistan to live a good life and settled in this country... Take the money and money, they get it, but they have to face various problems. In the house where she was staying in America, a maid who was Pakistani, tearfully told her story of how she had come to America with her husband for a better job. She supported him in every joy and sorrow, worked so hard that they both opened a food store together... As soon as she saw it, her days changed. Things became so good that the wife stopped going to the store and became busy with household chores... The boys who were about to become them were studying in good schools, why did the husband suddenly think that he had married again... But he did not let his wife know about it and even divorced her... One day, his son said to his mother:

"Mom, do you know that Daddy has remarried and divorced you?" Hearing this, the woman lost her senses. When she checked, her husband had indeed divorced her. When she protested to her husband, he had thrown her out of the house and she had started working part-time in the homes of poor Pakistanis. When I saw this woman at my host's house, she did not look like a maid at all. She was so polite that I did not want to take any work from her. But the problem of livelihood for this poor woman was killing me. I asked her. "When she remarried, we should have taken help from the local administration. We should have got half of the share as per the law here," she said with tears in her eyes. "This person did not give me enough time to tell the administration here... I am forced to take shelter in a separate Pakistani house along with my helpless children.

I was kicked out, but they did not let the children stay with me. They have also kicked them out of the house with me... The children are helpless and incapable of earning anything... I am working hard to educate them... As soon as they become capable, I will file a case against my husband and get my share. My employers are very good and are ready to support me.

Actually, they have two small children whom I take care of in their absence. Both of them work. They have promised me that they will get my rights. Okay, I will get my rights, but my husband has gone out of hand."

"You are right, but separation is better than living with such a husband. You supported him in good times and bad, and when good times came, he became prosperous, you turned your eyes away. Such people should definitely be punished.

You should keep pleading with your boss and file a case now. It is a matter of the past, so you may not be heard." She said with a sad tone to this. "I will definitely file a case. I wish I had kept a close eye on my husband, so I would not have to see this day. When the store was doing well, an American woman had begged my husband to get a job and she started working with him all the time. She secretly arranged a marriage without me even knowing. Today I am crying over my bad luck. How will I go back to my homeland? How many wives will I have there?"

My heart was breaking with her sad words. That woman was oppressed and forced. I do not know how many such women will be oppressed.
