Bonding with Animals
The Story of Mr. Cheddars the Stray Cat

I love animals and I've rescued all my dogs and cats, never purchased. The animals have always crossed my path. I've never gone searching for a pet. I either find them on the street, a new place I move into or they catch my eye online needing help.
There is a saying 'an animal or pet chooses you' not the other way around and I fully believe that. There's something about an animal connecting to you when they see you or even through a video or photo posted online.
I live in a condo near a neighborhood of homes. I walk my dog daily and say hi to all the dogs, cats and wildlife as the crazy animal person I am. About 8 months ago, I came across a little skinny white and orange cat. He was so sweet, rolling on his back and didn't seem to belong outside. He was young and thin so I started bringing him a churu cat treat every morning.
He waited for me by a particular house every morning and would even catch me on the corner and lead the way for me and my dog to follow to a safe place to feed him.
Apparently, a couple nearby also came to love him and leave him food outside their house.
Fast forward, I called him Mr. Cheddars and began to notice he had scratches and was looking worse and worse. I thought to myself I need to at least neuter this baby and get him vaccinated so he's healthy at least and not getting into fights.
After months of thinking about it, I finally took the plunge and brought my car around with my dog's crate in the trunk and picked him up as I always do to give him hugs and kisses but this time I wrapped a little towel around him and put him in the crate. I took him home, he didn't make a peep the entire night in the cage which is unheard of and we headed to the vet the next day. The vet neutered, vaccinated, tested for mites, worms and cleaned him up as well as gave him flea medication since he was filled with fleas head to toe. The vet and technicians mentioned he was the literal sweetest orange cat they've ever dealt with even after anesthesia and couldn't believe he was a stray.
I picked him up, took him home and he spent the weekend with me at my place. He was a complete angel, stayed in the bathroom unless I carried him out to watch tv but would run right back in the bathroom if I let him loose.
I somehow managed to have him pee on the pee pads I had down along with the litter box he wouldn't touch and then used once to pee but he wouldn't go number 2. I got nervous and took him back to the house he hung out at so he could poop after the weekend was over.
I spoke to the couple of the home he hangs out around most of the time and they agreed to give him flea meds monthly so he's not suffering with constant itching and they would let him in the screened patio more as well.
I feel better he's at least vetted and neutered and would love to recoup the funds I spent, over $400, for the vet and supplies for the house to let him heal. Yes, I didn't take him to the free cat places that either had no appointments for months or they were too far for me since I work all day. It just made sense to take him to a place right across the street from me. This way I didn't have to cram him into a small cat carrier which I was afraid I couldn't do since he's a street cat, possibly feral.

Sometimes you come across animals that just touch you for whatever reason. There are many stray cats in the neighborhood but Mr. Cheddars is special in a sense. He has a sweeter soul and just tugs at your heart. Have you ever come across an animal you just can't turn away from?
