The George family had been dreaming of their Kashmir vacation for months. April 22, 2025, was supposed to be another beautiful day of sightseeing, with Baisaran meadow next on their itinerary. But fate had other plans.

As they drove through the winding roads, hunger struck. They pulled into a roadside restaurant, eager for a quick meal before continuing their journey. The order was simple - fried rice for everyone. But as soon as the first bites were taken, complaints arose. The rice was unbearably salty.

Alby George, the head of the family, called the waiter over. "This is too salty. Can you remake it?" he asked politely. The restaurant staff, eager to please, agreed. What should have been a brief stop stretched into nearly an hour as the kitchen prepared fresh plates of food.

The family resumed their Journey , but on the way they noticed something wrong , But as they approached Pahalgam, something felt off. Horses galloped wildly down the road, taxis sped past them, and people were shouting in panic. The family flagged down a passing car, desperate for answers.

"Terrorists… an attack… turn back!" the driver warned.

Heart pounding, Alby made a split-second decision. "We're going back," he said firmly. Without hesitation, they turned their vehicle around and sped back toward their resort.

But their driver believed the situation would soon return to normal and suggested continuing, on their way back to resort they noticed shopkeepers are closing early, alerting them to stay in resort nearby .

Later that evening, the news broke - 26 people had lost their lives in a brutal terror attack at Baisaran meadow. The realization hit them like a tidal wave. Had they not stopped for lunch, had the fried rice not been overly salty, they would have been at the attack site at the exact moment tragedy struck.

That night, as they sat together in their hotel room, silence filled the air. The salty fried rice an inconvenience at the time had saved their lives.
