Like a Moth to the Flame
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Lilith stepped back from the glass, momentarily blinded by the glare. The darkness outside seemed to weigh heavily on the feeble flame and threatened to crush her own determination as well. She knew she was taking a risk. She was already weakened from her frantic tear through miles of dense thicket. Her only hope was that the last of her group would see the light and make their way toward her.

Hecatomb
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The woods were a wretched place to be at night. The cold crisp air blew towards the cabin. Winnie felt a shiver, not from the cold but from that cabin. *Hoot Hoot* She fixed her eyes on an owl, who slowly turned its head and stared at her and the young girl. The Owl watched as they made their way to the cabin, walking the stoned path to the front door, Winnie held the young girl's hand firmly. The wind suddenly stopped howling and nothing could be heard in the dead of night. The girls heard a thunderous voice that made the younger one feel as though the skin had been peeled off of her skin.

Burn
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. I had been camping in the same spot in Olympic National Park for years, I knew every sound, every rock, every tree; or so I thought. My favorite part about this site in particular is that it is far enough from the beaten path to get away from everything, yet close enough to be my quick weekend getaway. The best part is that my campsite is about a mile away from a ridge with enough elevation to overlook the green expanse of the old growth forest below and to see the stars. I liked to hike up there before dawn and sit and watch the colors of the sky change from a deep oceanic blue to the pink and fiery orange swirl of the awaking sun. The birds would sing their morning song, leaving me feeling free and refreshed and ready to face the week ahead. This was a great, calming, rejuvenating experience for me and I tried to go at least monthly, and I had regularly for about 3 years. So, like I said, I thought I knew everything what this place had to offer.

Below the Hill
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Curious as this was, I just assumed that maybe the controlled brushfire that Gabriel had been stoking for the past hour had somehow reflected against the cabin's windows, giving it a candle-glowing effect.

The Tale
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The trio of friends set up their small campfire just a stone’s throw away from the moss riddled cabin, just as they had done every Saturday night since the beginning of summer. As the three blankets are laid out, the extra sticks picked up along the trek were thrown into the blaze warming the trio’s faces as they settle in for the story. “It’s Tee’s turn tonight” Cam says over the hushed sounds of the night above them. It is then that Tee notices a flickering in the window, something that Tee nor the others had seen before, but something that brought about a sense of familiarity. “I’ve got just the story for tonight,” Tee said with confidence. “This one's for you, Matti.”

Tall Tales
“The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window.” The boy leaned closer to the campfire, the reflection of the orange flames twinkling in his eyes. “We had been out of school for only a couple weeks, and it was staying light out for like, forever.”
