The People
He sat there in his bed, the pure white cover pulled up to his nose. He peeked over the edge into the darkness. The dream had become so regular that it almost didn’t bother him anymore. Something was different about tonight though, when she was done she didn’t leave.

The Little Blue Ribbon
A long time ago, a young couple built a house with just four rooms. It was a simple house wood slats, with smaller slats to cover the openings and two by fours to hold up the walls. The roof was equally tiny, with no room to store anything, just tin rafters, insulation, and sheetrock. The couple was deeply in love, laughing, talking, and struggling to keep their hands off each other.

The End
He looked around briefly accessing his surroundings, trying to figure out how he got here. He could almost hear the gears in his head grinding. As his gaze panned across the decrepit old room, first landing on the rotting wall paper in the corner, then the overflowing trash bin containing god only knows what kind of disgusting bile. There was no flooring, just bare concrete. A drain in the middle of the room was noticeably full and close to backing up. He could here the dripping sound as fresh liquid dropped through the grate into the dark depths. A foul odor crept out of the drain that was nearly impossible to describe. The half walls surrounding the urinal he was relieving himself into where rusted and puckered out. He put one hand to his forehead, the other aiming his piss into the urinal, he sighed deeply.

The Apocalypse
With my mind racing, I slowly began to drift off into a vivid peaceful dream. I dreamt of sitting on a beach with glittering, white sand reflecting the sunlight watching a gaggle of swans diving for aquatic plants in the crystal clear lake. The water was the color of turquoise, with the waves gently lapping onto the shore. Wildflowers bloomed with their sweet scent lingering in the air blowing back and forth, swaying in the warm summer breeze.

Bloodlines
The rail yard was cold that night. It had rained that morning, and the ground was still wet. Thick fog covered the ground, wispy like in those old horror movies. The moon, bright and full, peeked through the few openings in the clouds overhead, dew forming on the sides of the metal freight cars. It was quiet, hardly a sound to be heard as the night drug on. Two young lovers had driven out to the rarely active rail yard to get some time away from the town. The idea was that, a least for tonight, they would have nothing to distract them from one another.

Having Hope.
Ten years ago, the government released a virus to kill most of the human population. The ones who did survive were the lucky ones. We were sent to a city where we had to live and continue. But we found out that the government wasn’t done with their plans. They cut our food supplies after a year or two. Some of the survivors had died from a sickness they ended up getting.

Last call
He was walking along a narrow alley through the forest. Everywhere was vast darkness, thick, as if someone had spat out parts of the abyss. The trees were dense. The Sun had gone out. The air smelled of smoke and burnt objects. Paper? Wood? He didn’t know. He couldn’t remember anything from the previous day. Suddenly, he held a pendant in his hand. It was the only fragment of his old life that connected him to the previous reality. He remembered only the fire. After a flash, everything went out. He wondered about the pendant in his hand. It was a heart-shaped locket, like the ones that open and have two small windows and a lock. But he couldn’t see anything now, so that he could decipher it. He was just walking in the dark. He arrived in front of a gate.
