It is Only a Story, Right?
"The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window." "Ugh. This story again?" My friend Amanda interrupts. The glow from the campfire lights up her face enough that I see her eyes roll. "Our new friends here haven't had the pleasure of hearing this one yet." I state. This is Amanda, Brad, and I's third year of summer camp together. We were lucky enough to find a group of kids about two or three years younger than we are gathered around this campfire. We want to have some fun and give them a spook tonight.

Go bump in the night
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The candle was burning bright and was located on the window still of the derelict cabin. It glowed like a comet in the dark sky. It was a good idea that it was burning for it scared away the public and allowed the ghosts inside to get on with their afterlives.

The light in the Cabin
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The light flame burning on the wick looked peaceful, swaying back and forth as if in warning of its capabilities. Seeing that this one candle could illuminate the inside of the cabin, invites visitors in search of safety and warmth from the dark, ominous forest.

Knock Knock
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Silas and his sister, Lucy, were walking their dog up the dirt path that wound its way around the ancient oaks when they noticed the light burning in the window. They both stopped still, staring silently at the cabin in an open question, and Hunter took his opportunity and pulled free of Lucy's grip, running over to sniff around at the rusting water tank that stood across from the dilapidated shack. Silas caught Lucy's eye, and shrugged towards the cabin, but she glared at him and, with a roll of her eyes, sighed, "This better not be like last time dude. Let me tie Hunter up." Without response, Silas turned back towards the cabin to stare again at the candle burning in the window, and suddenly he found his feet tracing their way towards the door.

One Last Candle to Keep Out the Night
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Nora lit it an hour ago hoping their parents would find them first, but now... it wasn't safe. She paced back and forth on wood panels so rotted they were becoming soft and tugged almost too hard on the loose strands of her hair. Victor remained catatonic where she sat him down earlier in an almost-clean spot against a hopefully stable wall. She was older than her eight-year-old brother by six years, so it was her responsibility to get them out of this. She had to get him out.
