The person who sent us this story is Alifuzzaman Wakil. His home is in the Narayanpur area of Belabo Thana, in Narsingdi district. He is currently a first-year student at Narsingdi Government College. He collected the story from his cousin, Niloy, who heard it from his father. Niloy is also a resident of the village where the incident occurred, although he currently lives in Narsingdi city due to his father's job. So, let's get to the story. The incident happened around 1980 in Chalna village, Palash Thana, Narsingdi district. It's worth mentioning that Chalna is still a very remote area. The village is still quite deserted, with fields, farms, and abundant natural beauty. Small, frightening incidents are still rumored to happen there. It is said that at one time, many people in this village used to raise genies. Even this Wakil, from whom the story was collected, his grandfather supposedly kept several genies. People used to raise these genies, and after their owners died, the genies began to live in the village. One of the residents of that village was Mohammad Shamsu Mia. He had a beautiful baby girl, two to three years old. The little girl was, MashaAllah, very beautiful, and therefore, she was the apple of everyone's eye. It wasn't just because she was beautiful; the child was very cheerful, would go to everyone's lap, and always smiled. That's why she was mainly the apple of everyone's eye. Whoever saw her would আদর (a Bengali word for showing affection) her. When the girl was about one and a half to two years old, a strange thing started happening to her. A snake would come and play with her. Many times, she would be seen playing alone with someone, but no one could be seen. This would happen during the day. Also, many people saw the snake's presence. It wasn't like they saw the snake all the time, but sometimes it seemed like she was playing with someone, but no one was visible.

The first incident I'm going to tell you about is from the Sylhet region. To be precise, it's not from Sylhet city or Sylhet district, but from Shibnagar village in Gobindaganj Upazila of Sunamganj, a neighboring district of Sylhet. The time of the incident would be around the 1960s, approximately. To be exact, it was before the Liberation War. Considering the various surrounding circumstances, it can be assumed that it was sometime in the 1960s. In this Shibnagar village, there lived a man named Ajkir Ali. He was quite a short-tempered person. He worked in agriculture, and also, in the canals and wetlands around there, he fished. The vast area of Sylhet, including the surrounding districts, has the Surma River flowing through it. Various branches of the Surma River have entered different places. Sunamganj is a haor-dominated area. Besides, in Habiganj too, various branches of the Surma River can be seen. So, in this region, many people fish and do agricultural work. They fish during the rainy season, and when the rainy season ends and the water recedes, they do agricultural work. That's how they live, and they were living that way too. Their house, I mean Ajkir Ali's house, was very big, and there were two ponds in front and behind the house. Actually, fish wouldn't thrive in the pond behind the house, even if you released them. But in the front pond, fish would thrive if you released them, and fish were always available there. And the pond behind the house, the one where fish usually didn't thrive, it wasn't like the water was polluted or anything. The water was as good as any other eight or ten ponds. People used that pond too, they swam in it, and used it for other purposes. There was no problem with that. The only problem was that fish wouldn't thrive in that pond, or if you released fish, they wouldn't be found.
