The Haunted House in Mymensingh & The Jinn’s Revenge
True Horror Stories from Bangladesh
The person who sent us this story is Alifuzzaman Wakil. His home is in the Narayanpur area of Belabo Thana, in Narsingdi district. He is currently a first-year student at Narsingdi Government College. He collected the story from his cousin, Niloy, who heard it from his father. Niloy is also a resident of the village where the incident occurred, although he currently lives in Narsingdi city due to his father's job. So, let's get to the story. The incident happened around 1980 in Chalna village, Palash Thana, Narsingdi district. It's worth mentioning that Chalna is still a very remote area. The village is still quite deserted, with fields, farms, and abundant natural beauty. Small, frightening incidents are still rumored to happen there. It is said that at one time, many people in this village used to raise genies. Even this Wakil, from whom the story was collected, his grandfather supposedly kept several genies. People used to raise these genies, and after their owners died, the genies began to live in the village. One of the residents of that village was Mohammad Shamsu Mia. He had a beautiful baby girl, two to three years old. The little girl was, MashaAllah, very beautiful, and therefore, she was the apple of everyone's eye. It wasn't just because she was beautiful; the child was very cheerful, would go to everyone's lap, and always smiled. That's why she was mainly the apple of everyone's eye. Whoever saw her would আদর (a Bengali word for showing affection) her. When the girl was about one and a half to two years old, a strange thing started happening to her. A snake would come and play with her. Many times, she would be seen playing alone with someone, but no one could be seen. This would happen during the day. Also, many people saw the snake's presence. It wasn't like they saw the snake all the time, but sometimes it seemed like she was playing with someone, but no one was visible.
But no one else could really understand the matter except for his parents. Besides that, there weren't any other problems. One day, Shamsumia was returning home from work in the evening. His wife was busy cooking, so their little girl was sitting alone in the house. When Shamsumia entered the house, he saw a snake playing with her. His child had gotten very close to the snake. Seeing this, Shamsumia got very flustered. In his haste and excitement, he grabbed a stick and struck the snake several times forcefully, resulting in its death right there. Mিয়া didn't think for a moment about the terrible mistake he was making. The day after the snake died, the girl developed a high fever and became ill. She also started vomiting. Within a few days, the girl became very weak and started to wither away. At that time, there weren't really any doctors nearby, and it was a remote area. Shamsumia took his daughter to a traditional healer (Kabiraj). The Kabiraj gave her some medicine and blessed water. Even after giving the medicine to the girl at home, her condition didn't improve. A few days later, they found a better Kabiraj. When they took the girl to that Kabiraj, he understood the real situation just by looking at her. Later, the Kabiraj asked for a couple of days to gather information. When Shamsumia went to the Kabiraj after two days, the Kabiraj informed him that the snake Shamsumia had killed that day was actually a Jinn. The Kabiraj further explained that, as revenge for killing that Jinn, the Jinn's relatives had possessed the girl and were constantly sucking her blood.
That night, the Kabiraj (traditional healer) set up his session again and summoned a Jinn (spirit). The Kabiraj asked the Jinn its name and address, and also wanted to know why they were tormenting this innocent girl. The Jinn said that a Jinn from their clan, in the form of a snake, used to come to the little girl, but it never harmed her. And Shamsumia, being an older, experienced man, knew that a snake came to his daughter. It wasn't like he was seeing it for the first time; he knew. So why did Shamsumia beat the snake to death? It's not like he suddenly saw it and killed it; if that were the case, one could understand. But Shamsumia killed it knowing full well, and because of this, the Jinn would not leave without taking Shamsumia's daughter. This is what the Jinns declared. The Kabiraj first tried to reason with the Jinn for a long time, but the Jinn absolutely refused to leave the girl. Later, the Kabiraj got angry and beat the Jinn in his own way, pouring hot water on its body. Finally, the Jinn agreed to leave, but with some conditions: some chickens, eggs, and other things had to be left at a crossroads by Shamsumia alone. Shamsumia, without thinking twice, agreed. After all, it was a father's heart; he had to make his daughter well. That night, Shamsumia took the things to a nearby crossroads, although the exact location of the crossroads wasn't specifically identified. Anyway, he set off in that direction. Shamsumia initially set off towards the crossroads with fear. Within a short time, he reached there, and there were no problems on the way.
But, following the jinn's instructions, when he turned back, for reasons unknown, his heartbeat suddenly increased. The reason was that although he didn't see anything terrifying behind him, he heard a terrifying sound. The sound was so harsh and sharp that it felt like his liver was bursting. Without looking back again, he ran straight home. Arriving home, he was panting heavily. Everyone in the house asked him what had happened. Then he explained everything – that he had heard such a sound when he looked back, but hadn't seen anything with his own eyes. But sadly, Shamsumia was so frightened that he suffered a heart attack that very night and departed from this world forever. According to the condition, the girl was supposed to be released, but the next day, another heartbreaking event occurred. Shamsumia's daughter also passed away the next day, never to return. The jinn had sucked almost all the blood from her body, as a result of which Shamsumia's daughter died. Even though Shamsumia's daughter was released, she died mainly due to her extreme illness. In this way, a beautifully arranged and well-organized family was destroyed. Dear listeners, we always say, we have always said, and we will still say in the future, Inshallah, that if you see a snake, you must kill it. That is true, but it is also true that when you see a snake, you should tell it, "If you are a jinn, leave." You have to say this three times. If such a situation arises where there is no opportunity to even say this, and the snake is attacking you, then the calculation is different. But if you see an unusual snake, one that is not normal, and then you harm it, then what will happen? Surely you understand. Dear listeners, we humans often behave strangely, we don't want to understand anything, we don't want to understand many logical things.
However, Jinn are inherently of a particular nature. Many logical things are difficult for them to understand. They don't readily grasp good and bad, right and wrong. Even if they possess that understanding, their inherent nature is somewhat different. As a result, we often wonder why a Jinn wouldn't agree, thinking it's unfair. But their understanding doesn't quite work that way, which leads them to become vengeful and do many things. And these things happen mostly due to our mistakes. In most cases, it's because of our errors. May Allah protect us.
The incident I'm about to share with you was sent to us by Ashraful Haque Tamim. His home is in Netrokona, in the area adjacent to the Upazila Quarter of Netrokona. He lives there. This incident isn't a new one from him; he previously sent another story titled "Kur," which we broadcast. This incident, however, is very recent, happening on June 20, 2024. The location where it occurred is in the Rajbari area of Mymensingh city.
The exact location in the Rajbari area, he mentioned, but for understandable reasons, I'm not revealing it. Tamim's mother lives in the Rajbari area of Mymensingh because she coaches her younger brother for cadet college entrance exams. One day, Tamim's mother's friend called her and said, "Hey, I'm also coming to Mymensingh. I want to enroll my son in a good coaching center; he'll also be preparing for cadet college exams. I need a good place to stay, so I'll look for a house while staying at your place." This friend's son of Tamim's mother is in the same class. So, the aunt came to the Mymensingh area a few days later and started looking for a house.
While searching, she took Tamim's mother with her. They even found a house in the Rajbari area. The house was very nice, but surprisingly, the landlord asked for very little rent. The aunt was overjoyed. When he mentioned the amount of the advance payment, she immediately paid it and booked the house, thinking that she wouldn't find a house like this again, and someone else might take it. The very next day, they moved into the house with their belongings and furniture. A month passed quite well. During this time, minor incidents may have occurred, but they didn't really pay much attention to them. For example, it could be said that water would drip from the tap. Even after turning it off at night, water would still be dripping. Also, something would be placed in one spot, and later it would be found somewhere else.
So, thinking it was just a trick of the mind, they took the matter normally. After a month passed, the aunt's family all noticed that the house was always cold, and everyone in the family felt a kind of restlessness while in the house. And everyone in the family was having strange dreams, dreams like someone they knew was burning to death, or someone they knew was in a road accident.
Then one day, Tamim and his younger brother, and his brother's mother, went to the aunt's house for dinner. They also noticed the same thing, that the atmosphere felt strange as soon as they entered, how they felt restless, and the house felt cold. They were feeling something different. But when they were asked about it, they seemed to avoid the topic. They said that there were trees around the house, so the sun didn't shine properly, which is why the house was cold.
Things continued like this, but after a few days, another story began. At night, a faint moaning sound could be heard from the kitchen. At first, the aunt didn't really notice it, thinking that since there were trees next to the house, maybe some birds or monkeys were coming, which was why the sound was heard. But this sound was heard every night.
One day, the aunt's younger brother came to her house. It was a Friday. The aunt's younger brother, who studies at a madrasa, came. As soon as he sat on the sofa after entering the house, he said, "Sister, there's a problem in your house." The aunt said, "What's the problem? Explain it a little." Then the aunt's brother said, "I feel like there's something paranormal here." The aunt's husband was at home at the time. Then the aunt said, "Your brother-in-law is already irritable, don't say such things now and unnecessarily create unrest in the house. Be quiet." The aunt's brother ate, rested for a while, and then left to return to the madrasa.
But then,
the aunt's husband had heard a little bit about the matter, so after her brother-in-law left, he came and said to his wife, meaning the aunt, "Hey, your brother said something, it sounded like 'pen's maal' or something, what's going on?" Then the aunt said, "No, he's actually studying at a madrasa, so that's why he probably understands a bit too much. He came and said there's a problem at home, what problem? A ghost problem." The aunt's husband didn't pursue the matter any further that day. The night passed, and that night, a terrifying incident happened to the aunt's husband. Everyone was asleep, it was around 1:30 or 2 AM.
The aunt's husband felt like someone was stroking his ear, and he felt a warm sensation near his ear. So, the uncle sat up straight. After sitting up, he heard a groaning sound very close to him. Hearing this, the uncle thought to himself, "This thing ruins my sleep every night. And the groaning is so close, it must be inside the house. Today, I'm going to give it such a beating that it won't make that sound again. I can't sleep peacefully every night. And on top of that, her brother is saying there are ghosts in the house." His temper flared even more. He stood up, "So, there's a ghost, huh? I'll see it today."
He was so angry that he grabbed his child's toy cricket bat, which was next to their bed. He felt like the groaning sound was coming from the direction of the kitchen, even though he was a little scared. But he was so angry that the fear didn't really affect him. He proceeded as usual. As soon as he entered the kitchen, he saw a figure. The figure was that of a woman, and she was doing something in the trash can. And there was a burning smell coming from the kitchen, like when we burn the feathers of a duck, you know, after plucking the big feathers, there are still some small feathers left, and we burn those off.
So, after burning those things, there's a certain smell, right? A smell like that. So, Uncle, what did he do? He picked up his cricket bat and shouted, "Hey you, who are you? What are you doing here?" As soon as he said that, the apparition didn't even look at him, it leaped like a cat through the kitchen window, through the kitchen's opening, and out. Seeing this, Uncle got terribly scared and started screaming. Auntie and his son woke up and ran to the kitchen. They saw Uncle panting. Then, Auntie and Auntie's son held Uncle and brought him to the room, gave him water, and asked him what happened. Then Uncle told them everything, that he saw this thing. The very next morning, they left the house and went to their village home, their village home was in a place called Atpara. They went to Atpara. Then, this Auntie called Tamim Bhai's mom and told her everything, that this happened, this happened. After that, Tamim Bhai's father and Tamim Bhai's mother, these two, gave some money to the people around the house and the security guard for tea and asked them to tell them what actually happened. Then the security guard said, and the people around said, that actually, everything you've heard is true. A girl used to live in this house. The girl was a doctor. The girl had a very close relationship with a boy. At one point, the boy left the girl for some reason. So, they had a big fight. This girl went to the kitchen of this house and set herself on fire and committed suicide. And after this incident, for two years straight, this house wasn't rented out. And even if someone came, they couldn't stay for more than a month or two. Many Quran recitations were done here, prayers were offered.
But it was no use. Basically, whoever has come here has faced this thing. And many people around here know about this incident. Actually, Tamim's brother's mother didn't know about this, nor did Tamim's brother's father. But Tamim's brother's mother's friend found out when she faced this incident. Then it turned out that this incident wasn't new, it had happened before. Dear listeners, actually, if this kind of unnatural death happens in any place, then, as we've said before, some evil genies come and inhabit that place. They practice black magic there and don't like the presence of any humans. So what do they do? They take the form of the person who committed suicide, or they recreate the context of that time, and they try to make it seem like the spirit is wandering there. People get scared and don't come there. Actually, the spirit can't come back. This is the work of genies. So, that was the incident.
