The Mass Misunderstanding of "My Soul to Take"
WARNING: This op-ed contains spoilers. I've never had a hard time naming a favorite horror director. Through a decade and a half of expanding my palate and knowledge of horror cinema, it’s the only question that stands unchanged in my indecisive mind. I can’t tell you my favorite Final Girl, favorite special effects artist, or even my all-time favorite subgenre, but I've always been able to answer “so, who's your favorite director?” with a triumphant exclamation of the late, great Wes Craven. Unfortunately for almost everyone who’s asked me this icebreaker, the conversation always seems to sever when we arrive at the dreaded ranking of his films and a completely guiltless guilty pleasure of mine is always put dead last.

Leave the Projector On-- All Kinds of Horrors
Leave The Projector On – All Kinds of Horrors Hallow’s Eve has come and passed, but personally I love screening horror films all across the year. But with 2022’s October now beyond the horizon, I figured it was an opportune moment to write another “Leave the Projector On” installment, this time fixating on horror films.

Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark' (2019)
What do I say about this movie? It wasn't bad. Actually, it was quite clever but some how it was also really bland. I don't know, maybe it's because it was yet another PG-13 horror movie, which always manages to hamper the movie by castrating the good stuff. Maybe it's because it was based on a children's book and it was bound to be kinda soft. I think maybe they wanted to introduce this to a younger audience but in a way that still appealed to the adults that remember it. I don't know, like I said, it was clever but it just didn't impress me.

The Best 'Dracula' Film Ever Made
He’s the king of vampires. He’s been in movies, books, comics, and theatre. Hell, there’s a puppet on Sesame Street and a cereal mascot modeled after him. Let me tell you something: Count Chocula is pretty goddamn delicious. I used to eat it while watching Dracula movies. Huh. Just typing that gave me some insight into myself. Anywho, Dracula is probably the most adapted literary character in any medium. If he’s not being adapted outright, there are characters that invoke him. Whenever vampire stories are created, he’s always on the artist’s mind, whether they are influenced by him or not. In fact, Dracula has become such a staple, some people think Dracula is the first fictional vampire ever created. That distinction goes to a guy named Varney. Varney the Vampire. No. I’m not making that up.
