Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'The Layer'
Yeah, this was a fun little creature feature. I think what I like the most about it is that the cast seemed like they were having fun but it wasn't the usual 'so bad it's good' movie where that happens. It was very well put together too. Nothing to write home about, we're not talking award-winning or anything but this kind of movie never has to be. It's like Pitch Black (2000), or Crawl or Die (2014). Action-packed, some good humor, plenty of violence, interesting creatures, quirky cast, the whole package.

Day of the Dead
Zombie movies are films whose subtext is undeniably that of a shuffling, mind-benumbed society slowly eating itself. The corpses are stand-ins, perhaps for the bourgeoisie, perhaps for the Third World (ironically enough) as has been suggested by one critic. Whatever the case, the dead return, again and again, to shuffle mindlessly in the worm-encrusted clothing they wore on their last day; inarticulate, slow, shambling, and having a relentless hunger for human brains.

Natural Born Killers . Content Warning.
Prophetic. That's all you can say. Natural Born Killers is an explosive, sensationalistic piece of satirical cinematic fireworks, an atrocious black comedy with an in-your-face Dadaistic sensibility (or perhaps, a lack of sensibility would better describe it). It stars Woody Harrelson, Juliette Lewis, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Sizemore, and Tommy Lee Jones (with appearances by Rodney Dangerfield among other less notable celebs) acting and behaving as living caricatures of some of the ugliest aspects of the human condition. No one in this film, except maybe for a Native American shaman played by the late Russell Means, has ANY redeeming value as an individual. There is no moment of let-up here; it's entirely bleak and distorted from start to finish. However, in the end, for a brief moment during a prison riot scene, it becomes almost transcendent, thanks in large part to the song on the soundtrack, "Anthem" by the late Leonard Cohen.
