Short Nightmares
I dropped my phone under my bed last week and haven’t been able to convince the monster to give it back. He loves sugar, so tonight is the night. Halloween. It brings me some comfort being able to relate to its sugar addiction; Makes it feel a bit more human. Typically I would just give it something from the cupboard but mom’s been on this new health kick recently... needless to say, the monster has been unhappy ever since.

Dead DayZ
You awaken in the apartment bedroom, news blaring on the television and the sound of a helicopter soaring outside. You stayed up way too late and don't remember all of the details but flashes of moments: drinking whiskey, chaos in the streets, your sister packing suitcases, and police cars lining up along the major avenues like makeshift border crossings.

This Night...
The rain beats the windows almost to the point of breaking it. The lighting flashed bright outside and the crackling thunder followed. A mouse-like girl sat at the dark oak table that seems to go on forever. The house was desolate of joy and laughter;only the cloud of melancholy filled the house. A booming bark breaks the silence and the girl's countenance illuminates and she gently pats her loving pet. The dog's tail wagged side to side almost as if it is following the rhythm of a song. The girl found comfort with her dog to substitute her parents who were absent most of the day due to working long hours to pay the bills. It was a usual night for the girl but this night will not be like her monotonous days she always experiences.

Mirror
For one hideous moment, she thought it was a gift. The mirror stood at least six feet high and had been lent against her front door, its width wide enough that her front porch felt dwarfed in comparison. It was, she supposed, a work of art – if one had questionable taste that leaned towards wooden representations of goblins cavorting throughout the heavyset oak frame. She paused, keys in hand, and realised after a moment of unmitigated horror that it was more than likely just another of Sienna’s antiques, brought home from work – for whatever ungodly reason – and currently awaiting transportation to – hopefully – somewhere far, far away. Lord knew the house was already filled with enough accumulated debris from her housemate’s chosen vocation of antiquities dealer that one more would most likely go unnoticed. But there was something unsettling about the mirror, something that didn’t sit right with her. Perhaps it was the face of the women who’d been Peer Gynt-ed into the below, the look of abject terror. Perhaps it was the leering faces of the goblins and imps as they clutched, and dragged, and pulled… whatever the reason was, Keira knew she didn’t want it in her house for any longer than it had to be.

Say a prayer...
It wasn't the foul odor that woke me, although that stench marched right up my nose as I stared into his white lifeless eyes. It was rather the sound of him dragging his deteriorating body across my floor that startled me out of my peaceful slumber. What was even more astonishing was how fast he moved despite his legs rotting away and well...that he had also been dead for almost 6 years.

Stalkers
The town is deserted except for a murder of crows gathered on the roof edge of the building across the street. It was a Chase Bank three months ago, before the first attack. Now it’s an empty shell with broken windows like hollow sockets. The crows caw and turn their heads to watch me, waiting for scraps of meat. If I’m not back to the motel by sundown, I will be their meat in the morning. I think they know and that’s why they watch me.

Ab Aeterno
Keefe huddled in the corner of his bathroom, allowing the sink’s faucet to pour its hot liquid into the overflowing basin. The water cascaded onto the tiled floor below. There, the water mixed with blood, swirling around like the paint his mother would let him use when he was a child.

Insatiable Greed
The heavy rain stopped about halfway through Claire’s shift at the restaurant and now was just a light drizzle. Which was just fine to her, actually she preferred it this way. She liked the rain sure, but today she had plans. First up was the walk to the book store, then some lunch and then home. But it was time to go. She put on her red coat, pulled her reddish hair back into a ponytail, and headed out the door. Although the book store was only half a block away walking was in order. The cold caused her to bundle up more, but in no time, she made it under the covered stone walkway of the mini mall where the bookstore was located. Her excitement was building as she came up to the large windows which showed off various books and comics that were on sale, this was her happy place. Past the large metal and glass double doors was a table strategically placed to catch people's attention. On the table were books, comics, pens, and notebooks all of which were on sale. She took the time to look everything over. Out of everything on display, the only thing to catch her eye was a single little black book. Leather bound and a little worn it drew her attention, and for some strange reason she felt compelled to pick it up. It was the typical size of any other notebook, and she loved the pure leather smell. Flipping through the pages, she knew she had to have it. So, it was hers now.
