fiction
Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
The overture
Prologue The air was thick with the bittersweet tang of blood. Crows and wolves were already gathering for the feast. A sound could be heard every now and again amongst the dead and the dying; sometimes a cry for help, mostly an injunction for blessed release. Soldiers moved around the dead bodies, helping those that could be saved out of the battlefield and helping those that could not, out of their misery. Other figures moved too, helping themselves to whatever valuables could be found on men who needed them no more. Washing his hands of the blood and the grime, Balaen Stramar watched the proceedings dispassionately, having watched this macabre scene more times than he wanted to. His weary eyes spotted riders, silhouetted against the setting sun, heading towards him and raising a small cloud of dust in their wake.

Our love
I love you. I love you with every fiber of my being, and I love everything about you. I love your eyes, your laugh, your smile. I took you back after you cheated because I love you. You made a small mistake but, I corrected that, and I made myself better for you. I erased your mistake. I know you love me too. I love everything about you. I love your laugh, your smile, each hair on your head, 106,932. I count them each night to show my devotion to you, to us.

The Plight of the Hawthorne
I saw it first. A ship on the distant horizon, barely more than a smudge against the merging blues of sky and sea. “Ma! Ma! It’s here! Pa’s ship is here!” I hollered as I ran down from the clifftops towards the town. I was panting by the time I reached the small main street, with its cobbled road leading towards the market square and beyond that the harbor.

Three Days Missing
I have been missing for three days and counting. I know this because there is a tiny, high window in here, and I kept myself awake since I been dragged down here. There have been many times I thought about something like this happening since I learned how powerful my father is and the millions he possesses.

For the Love of Chaos
That wasn't the way it was meant to go. It was just supposed to be a prank. Nobody was supposed to get hurt. As CEO he probably should have gotten some help from the science department before mixing chemicals together in the ventilation shafts. He was trying to make red smoke come out of the vents to cause a slight panic. He didn't know that dry ice would cause such a problem. Some of the employees had gotten sick and those with respiratory problems were now either in the hospital or the morgue. As for Jack, the CEO responsible for the prank gone wrong, he was now in jail facing charges for criminal negligence and, as of an hour ago, involuntary manslaughter.

THE MYERS (1)
Despite his irritation, Beau couldn't help but admire the way his sister moved in decisive strides, ignoring the panic that shoved pedestrians into chaos in the plaza. He didn't need to keep his gaze focused on her to know where she was headed. Comfortably seated in the leather seats of his Maserati parked beside a row of stores and apartments, Beau frowned at the bullet lodged in his windshield before he glanced sideways at the woman who, in her hurry, tripped over the bleeding teenager on the ground. As if to reaffirm Beau in his general hatred for human nature, she didn't stop or slow down to see what she could do to help the youngster.

Codeword: Merlot
I don't know how any of this is supposed to go. It has been almost twelve years and the times have changed. I found her on an app. Or more like she found me. I didn't think anyone would have private messaged me first, but she did. My profile was an open book. I didn't want for anyone to guess who I really was as a person. I even went as far as to list my seasonal allergies. The questions were standard, I didn't hold back when it came to job and personal history either. I wanted to make sure that I didn't beat around bush about who I was and what I do. I was famous enough for my readers, but not famous enough where I could walk in a restaurant and be noticed. It was a perfect blend that I was happy with.
