An unmarked box
A box sits by the ticket booth in a busy station. It is wrapped in brown paper and held closed with tape like a parcel. It isn’t overly suspicious or interesting, but it is alone, unattended, abandoned. What could it contain? I could be a present, a package, an important delivery or just someone’s stuff.

A Sweet Friendship
The air was crisp, delightfully cold and dry on this fall season. Amelia was riding in a Greyhound, on her way to an old friend’s house whose name is Beth. Amelia and Beth held a complicated relationship for a few years, like one of those on and off after high school friendships that changes over time. Amelia was excited, it’s been over a year since her college graduation.

The Cabin
The large grey wolf stared nervously at the cabin sitting just across the frozen pond. He sniffed the air around him, and something rancid filled his nostrils. His senses scream to turn and run back into the desolate wilderness from which he had just came, but the hunger in his belly has other ideas. There had been human animals there not long ago, and human animals were to be avoided at all cost. He looked anxiously toward the cabin again searching for signs of life and saw none. There was no smoke coming out of the chimney, no light burning in the windows, and still the wolf felt uneasy.

The Cake
Two people stumbled into a room from opposite ends. As soon as they entered the doors behind them shut immediately. Both covered in dirt and dried blood with tears in their clothing. Both victims to the cruel maze that brought them here, to this moment. Both have done unspeakable things to get this far. But, right now, none of that matters. Right now they need to focus on escaping to the outside world after weeks trapped and forced to undergo barbaric challenges to get through the maze.

Just Like Mother's
"Is there anything you'd like to eat?" He looked down at the woman. She was slight, tired-looking on this day, with her neatly starched gray ensemble and hair in a bun. She wasn't wearing make-up, but her face was clean. She looked up and smiled gently at the man.

Lettuce Eat Cake
I carefully touched the round, smooth slope of the surface. It was cool from being in the refrigerator. Moisture beaded on the green and white leaves. At the top, the color was darker - richer, more varied from one leaf to another. The wide curves at the sides pulled upward at the top to form sweeping curls, jagged edges, and spiraling twirls with toothy points. I was afraid to touch them; afraid to damage them; afraid they would damage me.

The Farmhouse
It is with a somber and shaken hand that I report my last words from the Curtis residence, uploaded to a cloud of data from this dimly-lit screen in this midnight and moldless confinement. Somehow, I feel it is imperative someone reads this although I am sure my fate will not be altered. The night is silent for now but I can't be certain on how long it will last, any moment now I expect to hear the macabre shrills that echo through my mind and across this land. This shack of a house, my mind - are no match for the unfathomable horrors that occupy the dark waiting.

Chocolate Was Her Favorite
As he stared down at the recipe book, he knew this would be the best birthday ever. One that could never be forgotten. He would make sure this day was memorable forever, just like all of the beautiful memories they had made together that he couldn't forget, no matter how hard he tried.

Curiosity Killed the Cat
When I moved into my new home, I was careful. I was ready for anything. But not this. The place was built in the 40s, after all, and that’s plenty of time. Nearly 80 years for someone to live and die here. Not all of us pass on, you know. Some stick around.
