The Phone Girl
Adam stretched his long legs out in front of him as he slouched on the couch, beads of sweat forming along the hairline at his temples while he listened to the air conditioner struggle to push cool air into his apartment. He wore nothing but a pair of loose athletic shorts, slung low on his hips, his sprawled posture intended to allow as much heat as possible escape from the surface of his bare skin. When his phone’s notification alert dinged, he rolled his head to the side to stare at it for a moment before picking it up and checking his texts.

Not a Normal Sunday
Crash! What was that noise? I asked myself, tumbling out of bed. I hit the floor with a thud, legs tangled in sheets. It took a moment to right myself as I crawled on the floor before standing up tall and heading for the door. I checked every room for something not right, but everything was in place and no one in sight. So, I stood in the kitchen, the kettle set to boil, my cup on the side with a teabag in place: whilst I pondered over the noise I had heard from this morning. Bang! I jumped while pouring the water and looked towards the front door as it seemed to cave in. I approached the door slowly with timid steps and called out, "who's there?!" With a nervous breath. No one answered as the noise seemed to stop, the door cloaked in darkness; I reached with a shaky hand and twisted the handle before pulling the door wide. Who was there? Well, no one! But a brown paper box, innocently placed on the floor by the door wrapped with twine and maybe lace?

Baby's First Day
The box sat atop the counter, wrapped in brown paper packaging, daring somebody to reveal its contents. Baby eyed it critically, wondering who had sent it and why. It had been addressed to her, Barbra, arriving on her first day on the job. She'd moved to the safety of the Rainbow City, as Adelaide was becoming known; the wall surrounding the Queen’s lands had been constructed from abandoned cars and was thus a patchwork of colours. This new job as Sheriff's Deputy was primarily because of her artistic talents, partially because she knew her way around various weapons, and partly because Barbra's father had once, very briefly, served as Sheriff to the Queen. And partly because Baby's best friend, Laura, daughter of the Queen, had gotten her one of the easiest jobs in town.

Embrace
In the soft glow by the fireside, cascades of shadow danced majestically over her supple golden skin. With the seamless movement of feline grace her guiding hand glided the plate between us and we shared the last bites of the rich chocolate cake looking each other over in reminiscent awe. As our eyes met in a beckoning gaze, our lips received each other's and we celebrated my birthday one last time in each other's embrace.

Young Blood, Act II
With the first twinge gone and Henry having explained it away sufficiently, they had retired the online videos for the time being. Instead they took to talking about real world stuff. Namely relationships, and all of their positive and negative experiences with them. Henry wasn’t exactly well versed but he was a good listener and was still oddly wise, all things considered.

Mrs. Milberry's Pastries
Ryan woke up with excitement. Today was his special day; he has been waiting four years for this. He looked at the clock and it was earlier than he expected but he got ready, took a shower, brushed his teeth and put on a new blue button down shirt, black slacks and brown shoes. Then he grabbed his gown from the hanger and pulled the long gown over his head. He grabbed the cap, place it on his head then stared in the mirror with a huge grin on his face.
