fiction
Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
The Nothing
“There was once a small village filled with happy, joyous people. They were normal, in fact, they were as normal as they came. On a beautiful, sunny day, the day after the solstice, the children began to play a game. They called it “The Nothing.” There were no rules that they could actively explain. Except for one: every day, one of them had to go into the forest and after a while, they would come out. And then they started to come back... different. One of the girls came back with an eye at the tip of each of her fingers. She insisted they had always been there, no one believed her, of course, but what else could they do when the child themselves believed so?

Obscured
Sophie and Henry’s house was still, quiet. Standing at the laundry sink in the basement, Henry was wringing water out of some clothes with as much power as his forearms could muster. It was early morning, a single lightbulb illuminated the dark room. Looking up, he saw a dribble of water that had permeated the basement walls. The lights flickered.

Abominable Intelligence
Audio Transcript removed from Majesty Archives under orders of High Deacon Jericho Maverock. Audio transcript follows. “Eight hours ago, an Overseer AI went rogue at the hydroplant beneath Mount Solaris, all communication went dead six hours ago, and we believe all assets lost. Before all contact was lost the facility security managed to bring the lab into lockdown. However, moments before the failsafe activated a high-density information packet was beamed to the outside, corrupting all machine-guard and drone-worker units. Intelligence tells us this was the work of our rogue AI trying to escape.

The Quarry
I grab my gear from the back of the truck as the sheriff pulls into the little cutaway beside the road. “Howdy,” he says, and I reciprocate. His ruddy, mustached face is grim. Another officer, young and broad, gets out from the passenger-side vehicle and we too exchange terse greetings.

Beneath Pehr's Darkness
Peter had been on hundreds of dives in lake Baikal, but this dive was different. On this dive, he heard a voice. “Peter,” it said to him. “You must go back to Pehr lake. This lake’s secrets have been revealed but it is that lake which will change the world.” At first, Peter dismissed the voice as the rapture of the deep and prepared to ascend back into the light. But before he could leave the area, a massive white hand reached out of the depths to block his path up. Knowing what he was seeing had to be a product of his imagination, he looked down into the depths, only to see a massive white face looking back at him.

The Spring
Anyone could live an ideal life in Geneva Springs. One school, one grocery, one doctor, one church and one diner. Life rotated up and down Main Street from one activity to the next. Excitement consisted of occasional graffiti, and a Friday night church service. For a town so small, the dense woods seemed endless. The name was misleading. There was no body of water in, or around it, for several hundred miles. Accidently stumbling upon the town, tourists would find out the name was a lie and ask for directions to leave. The founders believed that using a gimmick in the name would draw settlers in. An omen of things to come.

The Harbor's Revenge
A piercing shriek pulled Mr. Montgomery from a sleep that had come over him quite suddenly. Not one to find himself asleep behind his desk, it took him far longer than usual to return to his senses. The shrill sound that continued its lament certainly didn’t help.
